@uav_guy_79 Fair enough - the emphasis here is that those who say that our common English translations are "wrong" is not fair and oversimplifies the linguistic situation. Evidence shows that "In the beginning God created" is linguistically permissible, and maybe even preferable. Blessings!

@Joshua_Meynell Anyone who says its a slam dunk either way is either ignorant of the literature or else being dishonest. I dont think it is as huge a deal theologically as people make it out to be. We dont get creation ex nihilo from just one verse.

NEW VIDEO: There has been a lot of noise about whether we've misunderstood Genesis 1:1, that it really means "when God began creating..." In this video, I try to explain evidence presented by Ben Kantor in support of the traditional view. youtube.com/watch?v=m7i7As…

@WesleyLHuff Thanks for the share, Wes, especially since I've benefitted so much from your content. I hope that, despite a few imprecisions, this video will do more good than harm! And at the very least it will lead enthusiastic folks to Ben Kantor's work!

@freemonotheist @YouTube Hi Paul. It was good to chat at speakers' corner the other week However, this video is disappointing. You strawman the argument and neglect many key verses presented by GodLogic, D Wood, IP Still, its not as disappointing as your support for Haqiqatjou's use of Autism as a slur

@slbyun Bisectioning in the Septuagint at mid-points is certain (Jeremiah, Exodus, Kingdoms) so I assume different Vorlage unless proven otherwise. But I defer to Hugh Williamson and Drew Longacre on the specifics on the Isaiah Scroll.

Ancient scrolls weren’t just copied—they were scrambled! Orthographic quirks in the Great Isaiah Scroll and the LXX reveal deep editorial chaos! My latest Open Access article appears in the Festschrift for Robert Hanhart, who saw the volume shortly before his death at 100.

Yes!! V excited to see this article about my MPhil supervisor Dr Aaron Hornkohl’s recent book on the linguistic distinctiveness of the Torah. I excitedly ploughed through it with as much gusto as reading Harry Potter. Seeing how the academy responds will be intriguing.

"Fear not" Is 40:9 "Fear not, for I am with you" 41:10 "Fear not, I am the one who helps you" 41:13 "Fear not, you worm Jacob" 41:14 "Fear not, for I have redeemed you" 43:1 "Fear not, for I am with you" 43:5 "Fear not, Jacob ... whom I have chosen" 44:2 And that's just אל־תירא

@jonathanahlgren @Tyndale_House Thank you for picking this up!! John Bimson had put forward a chiastic structure, but mine was a bit different (and not one that I had seen elsewhere). I'm interested to see what folks think of it!

I just completed a great article @Joshua_Meynell and @Tyndale_House on the Merneptah Stele pictured here. While it is commonly known as the first reference to Israel in ancient texts (1207 BC), I have never considered the structure of these last three lines. The first reference to Israel in an ancient text... within a chiasm? The geographic progression of Merneptah's victories, as written in the stele, suggests this structure. @DrJimHamilton - have you seen this?

Ran to Ely today… was intrigued to see that Balaam gets a major feature on the cathedral ceiling (lower right) among various prophets. Seems like quite a blunder!? Note his death in Josh 13:22 and ofc his NT features
