@ciavarella2025 @CanadasLeafs Based on everything i have read and from what I can remember I think alot of fans were not overly happy about the Woodcroft firing. Is it coaching that brought them to two stanley cup finals or just simply 97 & 29?

@CanadasLeafs What has Woodcroft done that entitles him to be the coach of the leafs. He was fired on Edmonton and the new coach took over and brought them to 2 Stanley Cup finals!

Take this with a grain of salt because relying on what is being reported is dubious. Carle rejected 5 x 5 by Chicago last year, so he will want more here. (Maybe $30-$40 million over 6-8 years) Cassidy wants a “win now” team and that’s not us (yet). Woodcroft might be the guy.

@LeafsGuy7 Acting like its the first time a team has had a down year and bounced back. Tampas, Wash and Vegas all missed the playoffs not long before winning the cup. Vegas actually went from missing to winning it all. Bad seasons happen but lots of work to do to make this team good again.

@NHL_Watcher I mean is Edmonton or LA anywhere closer? Edmonton had a terrible year and LA shouldnt even have been a playoff team. Actually neither team even comes close to making it if they played in the East. You could actually argue with the 1st overall pick Leafs should be preferred.

@puckdrop My guess is they are keeping a bullet in the chamber for not IF but WHEN they get off to a slow start next season. If they make changes to roster and start slow they can blame the coach and make a change. If they start slow with a new coach then the blame will be on management.

Craig Berube is likely to return as head coach of the Maple Leafs next season. The meeting that took place this past weekend between him and Leafs GM John Chayka was an audit of this team, player by player, and Berube’s view of where they should be moving forward. If they can schedule the meeting with Matthews, that could be very telling, but the expectation from management and from the head coach is that Auston Matthews will be back and in training camp. “It sure seems like Craig Berube is likely going to return as head coach.” “From a management standpoint, I’d want to know what the hesitation is beyond the obvious. We can all see the areas of need. So I think Matthews is going to want some explanation as to what John Chayka and Mats Sundin see moving forward. I can’t imagine he withholds his services, right? But does he eventually, maybe not in this meeting, but sometime in the not too distant future, say, ‘Okay, yeah, I’m not in this for the long term. I wonder if Philly sees themselves as an option (I dont think they are there yet) but they have pieces that the Leafs would want for sure. Although, I would imagine the Leafs would much rather trade AM out west.

I just think people are going a little crazy with thinking that teams are going to rip appart their whole prospect pool for one player (who has declined over 2 straight seasons)

As for dumping salary, teams would do that for AM and if the Leafs rebuild then they probably dont mind taking on contracts

One guy is Connor McDavid, one guy is Jack Eichel, one guy is Gavin McKenna. W is different than C, but solid stat comparisons. McDavid put up 99 points in OHL at 16. Eichel put up 1.775 ppg in college at 17 McKenna put up 129 points in WHL at 16 and 1.46 ppg in college at 17.

@NHL_Watcher People understand he has a no trade contract so he will determine teams he is willing to goto ...so leafs will already be on the back foot in getting a "haul" and most teams he would goto have not cap space so would need to dump potential cap on leafs or a third team
