Mark Wahlberg turned THE DEPARTED down multiple times as he wasn't keen on a supporting role. He changed his mind when Scorsese convinced him and promised he could improvise much of Dignam’s dialogue. It led to Wahlberg's only acting Oscar nomination.

@Corbienest Naw, we were taught that nothing is free and nobody is coming to save you. So we do our own thing.

The reason Gen X is so cynical is they were the first generation that was taught, “You can be anything you want when you grow up.” They genuinely believed it and became bitter when it turned out not to be true. They are not the celebrities they were told they could be.
