We invested in @lulubitapp late last year and just published our first portfolio spotlight on the team. 70K users, $110M in volume across Panama, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, real revenue, no token incentives. In a region where most crypto products look good in screenshots but break down at the last mile, @ianir, Diego, and Alan actually figured it out. Pretty excited about this one!

Easiest way to see how successful someone is is by how generous they are & I don’t just mean successful in money standards - I mean having a great life Those with great lives know they have great lives. They want to see others win. They help, encourage, support, and cheer Which says a lot about those who hate

Big fintech funding round @arq_finance fka DolarApp raised $70M in new funding from @sequoia & @foundersfund (think it's a Series A bc only see a $5M seed before this round) ARQ is a financial platform in LatAm built on stablecoin infra that lets users open multi-currency accounts in USD, EUR, + local currencies. Also offer intl transfers at real market rates, global payment cards, + access to US stocks & ETFs. Available in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, + Brazil Some stats on the biz: - 2M+ users across LatAm - $10B+ annualized transaction volume Cofounders all came from @Revolut where they led remittances, premium products, + crypto bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The fintech --> bank pipeline keeps getting busier! Plata just got full banking authorization from Mexico's CNBV, completing a ~3-year licensing process I believe Nubank + Mercado Pago are still waiting for final auth of their Mexican banking licenses Right now, Plata only offers credit cards. With the license, they will be able to expand the product offering and get into deposits, lending, and more bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Mexican neobank Plata is absolutely crushing Just raised $500M in debt financing from @Nomura. In Oct, they closed a $250M Series B at a $3.1B val (only six months prior, raised $160M Series A at a $1.5B val) They focus on consumer lending (credit cards, BNPL, personal loans). Launched in late 2023 and already have 2.5M+ customers, 1M+ credit cardholders. Banking license was approved in December 2024. Once live as a bank, they'll add debit and lower their cost of funds significantly Wild founding story: believe it was basically ~100 ex-Tinkoff executives + employees who left Russia after the Ukraine war started and rebuilt in Mexico (also believe Tinkoff's founder effectively seeded the company) fintechfutures.com/venture-capita…

counterintuively, the safest thing to do as a startup is to work on the hardest and biggest idea. there is almost always no one competing with you, and you'll have a massive advantage in hiring because smart people want to work on unique and difficult things this is especially true in crypto, which can be a myopic, narrative-driven market where trends can last just a few days. getting lost in the sauce of the "current crypto thing" by pivoting from one idea to another is a very common startup failure mode the best founders can take a step back, think about where the world is heading, and build the thing that's hard + inevitable
