@mmysticbloom @Old_SchoolEddie Cholera has been around since the early 1800s but I wouldn't want it. I'm not sure how long something has been around has to do with the question.
English

@Old_SchoolEddie Covid. 🤣🤣🤣 hantavirus has existed from the early 1920s so

@investor_chef @RodPin5 @SDSLLC_USA @edchernis Personally, although I've done both once, I wouldn't recommend swimming in the ocean during a thunderstorm or sheltering under a tree on a golf course.
English

@RodPin5 @SDSLLC_USA @edchernis The chances of dying from Hantaviris is lower than getting Ht by lightning. You scared of getting hit by lightning? 😂

Can anyone explain to me how a cruise ship with a few Hantavirus infected people has now spread to so many different countries that had nothing to with this cruise ship or even coming to port in their countries and how it's spreading in the United States so fast?
This feels like it's been planned and is intentional and if that's the case, I want to know who is going to be held accountable for it?
English

@Someone58162111 @disclosetv I guess that depends on your definition of "prolonged close contact".
English

Not likely to be the same virus unless it's a genetically altered virus. The only strain of hanta that could transmit is super rare to transmit to another human and would require prolonged close contact without any PPE.
It's either not the same virus or it's an engendered virus or it's all completely fake.
English

@Carl0vj3 @LongCovidHell Yes, I have plenty of other people I can have conversations like this with. Enjoy the rest of your day. Bye.
English

@JuliaRansom3 @LongCovidHell So you’ll share two images but provide no context? And you won’t address the methodology issues that the review paper highlighted?
English

Hantavirus ship passengers leaving hospital quarantine and heading back to their homes all across the UK.
Sure it’ll be fine… 😄👍
Hang on, doesn’t Hantavirus have an incubation period of up to 8 weeks?
How long has it been?
(Reads article.)
72 HOURS.

English

@Carl0vj3 @LongCovidHell I don't have time for this. I'm sure you can work it out.
English

@JuliaRansom3 @LongCovidHell I haven’t said it should be fine. I’ve said the evidence doesn’t support assuming human to human transmission when a systematic review concluded the balance of evidence does not support that claim. Those are very different positions. So no we should not assume H2H
English

@claireh5611 Had rain an hour ago. Just had thunder, lighting and hail. Now sun.
English

@Carl0vj3 @LongCovidHell Plenty more data for those studies are being generated as we speak.
English

@JuliaRansom3 @LongCovidHell The precautionary principle is reasonable during an active outbreak. But validation still matters public health responses built on an unvalidated transmission mechanism risk being misdirected. The review specifically calls for the studies needed to settle this.
English

@Carl0vj3 @LongCovidHell As you agree perhaps you will consider saying "to be on the safe side it would be best to assume htoh transmission" rather than "it should be fine".
English

@JuliaRansom3 @LongCovidHell That’s a completely different argument and one I’d agree with. Acting cautiously during an active outbreak is sensible. that’s not the same as the claim being scientifically established, which is what was originally being asserted. The human to human element needs to be validated

@Carl0vj3 @LongCovidHell Nothing needs to be validated the possibility is enough. Until proved otherwise it should be treated as it does. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best rather than prepare for the best and get screwed.
English

@JuliaRansom3 @LongCovidHell So this paper you shared can’t be used to validate the epidemiological claim. It’s downstream of it. Using it as proof of human-to-human transmission is circular it assumes what it needs to prove.
English

@LongCovidHell @Carl0vj3 Andes virus can also be spread through casual contact and during the prodomal phase.

English

@Carl0vj3 Did YOU read it?
Mate, read the latest on the passengers. It’s already spreading! This isn’t a hypothetical scenario. 🤦♀️

English

@jellibeans123 @outbreakupdates So ... there is the possibility this is another hantavirus case on a cruise ship.
English

@jellibeans123 @outbreakupdates Gastroenteritis is a common first symptom of hantavirus. Has this person been tested for hantavirus?

@waldenspond1854 @outbreakupdates Gastroenteritis is a common first symptom of hantavirus. Has this person been tested for hantavirus?
English

@outbreakupdates So they quarantine the whole ship for this but not the lethal virus.
English

Short version: Andes Hantavirus can spread amongst humans, but it sucks at it.
While highly deadly, it's not highly communicable and is not likely to cause a COVID like pandemic.
You're welcome...
Monica Gandhi MD, MPH@MonicaGandhi9
HANTAVIRUS: Let's start with obvious. Global pandemics in 1918 (influenza) and 2020 (coronavirus) are from viruses easily spread by respiratory contact which is why flu/coronaviruses most of concern for pandemic potential. Hantavirus is an RNA virus in bunyavirus family, can be

One of the most overlooked details in the Hondius timeline.
Patagonia already had recognized Andes hantavirus transmission activity before the cruise outbreak became an international story.
Health authorities reported the death of a 15-year-old girl, who was a close contact of the first positive case detected in the rural community.
