IT'LL NEVER WORK... This PLASTIC FREE JULY, we're celebrating one of our pretty unique collabs. Back in 2021, we WON the tender to supply all of the schools in East Ayrshire Council - a crazy, and unthinkable thing to have happened in our journey! The reason it was a bit out of the norm, was that we hadn't tendered to supply 'just milk' to schools - but instead, we were going to throw away the milk playbook and do it all differently! The milk would be all-organic, non-homogenised, NEVER in single use plastic, delivered by electric vans AND brewed. Not just that either though - it was all brewed right in the middle of the very local authority area it was supplying from a co-op of 5 farms!! Thing is, when the whole UK school network uses single use bottles, homogenised milk and a 'standard' approach - then a tiny little dairy in Ayrshire decides to do it differently, there are a few bumps to overcome and boxes to tick. That's why our approach wasn't just to 'supply', but to 'collaborate' - and that's exactly what we did. Today, every East Ayrshire school and early childhood centre has a Mossgiel vending machine or dispensing milk pails. This allows ZERO single use plastic across the council. Our collaboration isn't just about the Mossgiel team either - our approach means that we work together with the award winning procurement team, the catering teams, the teachers and everyone else in between to provide not just milk to schools; but a circular system that provides pure community wealth building from soil to school. Put it into numbers? Well, with the term finishing last Friday we were able to get the calculator out - and our collaboration has saves nearly SIX MILLION bits of plastic!!
