What the story timeline tells us in Michigan. Michigan used to be one of the most economically powerful states in America. In the 1950s–1970s: • Michigan ranked among the TOP states for household income • Detroit was called the Arsenal of Democracy • Auto factories provided middle-class wages that could support entire families on ONE income • Tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs filled cities like Flint, Saginaw, Lansing, Pontiac, and Detroit • Ford’s River Rouge Plant alone once employed around 90,000 workers Back then: A factory worker could buy a home, raise children, own vehicles, take vacations, and retire with dignity. Now compare that to today: • Michigan lost hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs over the past several decades • Entire industrial communities were hollowed out • Detroit lost over 60% of its population from its peak • Michigan families now face some of the highest auto insurance costs in America • Property taxes, utilities, and basic living costs continue climbing • Young skilled workers increasingly leave the state searching for opportunity elsewhere Meanwhile taxpayers watched: • Corporate subsidies handed out • Roads continue crumbling year after year • Small businesses struggle under rising costs • Public schools decline despite billions spent • Government expansion continue while working families fall further behind Michigan workers did not suddenly become lazy. Michigan families did not suddenly lose work ethic. The collapse happened because decades of political decisions prioritized bureaucracy, corporate favoritism, poor long-term planning, outsourcing, and special interests over protecting the middle class that built this state. Both political parties had opportunities to stop the decline. Both parties allowed industries to disappear, infrastructure to decay, and taxpayers to carry more of the burden. Michigan was once the blueprint for the American Dream. Now many residents feel like they are financing the slow dismantling of it while being told to stay quiet and accept less. The people are not failing Michigan. Michigan’s leadership failed its people. @detroitnews @michigannews @SenAricNesbitt @MIGOP @MichiganDems @MackinacCenter @HZardoz @PatriotPostGirl @realDonaldTrump @DOGE @GovWhitmer @dananessel @JocelynBenson @libsoftiktok @empress3377 @aimee_olson1203 @mikeeduggan @Charlieleduff @Sentinel2NO
