What’s happening in Michigan?
Michigan families are asking difficult questions about what is happening inside the Genesee County Jail.
Too many mothers have buried their children after they entered that facility alive and never came home.
Former employees and community voices have spoken about:
• chronic understaffing
• burnout and unsafe conditions
• fear of retaliation for speaking out
• workers allegedly pushed out or fired after raising concerns
• a system many believe is operating under enormous pressure
And families are left with grief, silence, and unanswered questions.
At what point does the public demand full transparency?
How many deaths does it take before outside investigations, staffing reforms, mental health protections, and accountability become unavoidable?
These were not headlines.
These were human beings.
Someone’s son.
Someone’s daughter.
Someone’s entire world.
The people of Michigan deserve honesty.
The families deserve answers.
And employees who speak up about safety concerns should never have to fear retaliation for doing so.
No matter your politics this should concern everyone.

@Muh8675309 @Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves I have access to a couple but they are in an ongoing open case so cannot be released to the public at this time.
English

@empress3377 @Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves Yes, exactly why I said those before 2022. I am in Genesee county 😅

@bizgoddessaud @Goody2Shoes46 There is no public record of it that I know of. There is some record in the investigations performed by the jail itself, but that is not yet available to the public because it is an on going case. I cannot confirm or deny a whistleblower.
English

@empress3377 @Goody2Shoes46 Is that info in the record? Does the jail have inmate info like that available? Do we have a whistleblower?
English

@Muh8675309 @Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves No in Genesee county it takes 6-8months to get the autopsy report back.
English

@empress3377 @Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves I would like more info, especially those from before 2020 because we should have the ME's cause of death by now.
English

@bizgoddessaud @Goody2Shoes46 The guards and medical personnel are ignoring the inmates when they are having medical emergencies and they are dying. 💔
English

@empress3377 @Goody2Shoes46 😳😳 then the question really is what is going on there?
English

@Muh8675309 @Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves Most of the ones who died on my list were under observation according to the police. So cameras on them 24/7 and proof they allowed things to go wrong, ignored cries for help and even laughed during seizing people. 💔
English

@Goody2Shoes46 @RepJoeGraves @empress3377 This is true, but like every other jail in the US, jail staff are nit medical doctors, they don't do a vital check every 60 minutes, and if the prisoner doesn't complain or sudden cardiac arrest happens 🤷🏽♀️
English

@Muh8675309 @RepJoeGraves @Goody2Shoes46 Of the 20 I know of 1. They rely on Advanced correctional medical; and they are either unqualified or just neglectful themselves. Most if not all of these could have been prevented with proper medical care.
English

@empress3377 @RepJoeGraves @Goody2Shoes46 First off, I am very sorry for the loss of your daughter. But the jail is not a medical facility. I would be interested to see how many were escorted to ER and cleared by medical staff before they were jailed.
English

@bizgoddessaud @Goody2Shoes46 This is excessive 💔 average inmate deaths in Michigan jails is .3-.4 per year Genesee county is at 2-4 per year. In the last 6 years in all of the Michigan jails 200 inmates have died which is 2.5 per jail. Genesee county has had at least 19 of them that I am aware of
English

@Goody2Shoes46 Makes me wonder what the death toll is in other counties. Is this a normal amount or excessive? Not that any are good, just curious.
English

These are the faces of the victims of neglect in the Genesee county jail💔 Remember their names!

What’s happening in Michigan?
Explain why a man wants to be Governor when people have been dying inside the jail under his watch for years.
If you can’t keep human beings alive in your own county facility… why should anyone hand you the keys to an entire state?
These weren’t statistics.
These were sons.
Daughters.
Mothers.
Fathers.
People don’t lose their constitutional rights to emergency medical care because they are sitting in a county jail.
In Michigan, county jails are legally required to provide medical care, mental health treatment, medications, detox monitoring, and emergency intervention for inmates including people who haven’t even been convicted of a crime yet.
Chest pain.
Seizures.
Suicidal crises.
Diabetic emergencies.
Withdrawal.
Severe injuries.
Ignoring serious medical distress in jail isn’t just unethical…
it can become a federal civil rights violation.
A jail sentence should never become a death sentence because someone’s medical emergency was ignored.
Human rights still matter behind bars.
And while families bury loved ones…
politicians hold press conferences and campaign rallies.
Michigan is tired of photo ops.
Tired of slogans.
Tired of politicians climbing ladders while taxpayers and families are left with questions.
Before anyone asks for votes…
maybe answer for the body count first.

English

@RepJoeGraves @Goody2Shoes46 Not necessarily. There were some who were in detox that were left to die rather than get them actual help and some the deputies gave drugs too. Then others that had ulcers that burst, or seizures unattended etc
English

@Goody2Shoes46 Were these drug related deaths?
