@Spellacy I’m a developer but I bring up accessibility to everyone I can—devs, designers, product. I know that accessibility isn’t just an engineering problem. People have gotten better over time but I keep seeing new features where it’s obvious that a11y was never even considered ::sigh::

@Spellacy I love this. Would to love to hear your approach. I talk a great deal about accessibility to all sorts of people on my team but am having a lot of trouble getting the ideas to stick.

I'm working a sold-out arena show tonight. Got tested on arrival. Masks are required for everyone backstage. Most wearing KN95 or better. No guests allowed. Audience is vaxxed or tested. If the concert industry created our public health policies we'd be over this a long time ago

It's a mistake to assume accessibility will make it into your product automatically simply because your design system accounts for it. You still need to put deliberate effort into using those accessibility features, correctly and helpfully.

@codeability @cherthedev If we’re talking about software engineers very new to a11y, I would first suggest to research how disabled users use the web! Then, try navigating with a keyboard/screen reader yourself. Empathy is the most important building block. You need to understand what the issues are.
