🚀 Excited to share some big news! I've joined @adapty as a Developer Advocate! 🎉 I'm super excited to work with mobile app builders and help them unlock their app's full potential. This is a whole new professional chapter for me and I can't wait to get started!

I don't really have much reason to delete my posts so I probably won't, but I doubt I will post much here anymore, if at all. Find me at Blue Sky!

Also, real talk: they'd need more than just hiring people to build good stuff: they would need to actually offer adequate tooling for building games. Because there are SO many reasons there is no real AAA game market on iOS/iPadOS (I won't even acknowledge the Mac here b/c legit lol) -- but one of the ones that can't be avoided is the lack of tooling to build those titles. The best game engine for macOS is controlled by Epic, a company Apple had prolonged litigation with, but even Unreal on Mac is complete bullshit compared to real Unreal on Windows. To say nothing of the utter lack of anything like what DirectX offers. So putting aside the very real question of whether there is an audience for those types of titles on Apple devices, there is also the reality that the tooling situation for games sucks.

Just handle it like they do Apple TV+: hire talented creative folks to do what they do best, and let them build what they want to build
Pavel Larionov@pa1ar

@ChristianSelig @sdw afaik they subsidized game dev studios as part of Apple Arcade, and there are good games in the subscription, but no real bangers, imo because they always try to play safe i think Apple’s reputation could limit experimentation, which is essential for game dev studios

@FlawlessFlap @ZullieTheWitch Outer Wilds's DLC did add a "Reduced Frights" option that made some changes to the behavior in some encounters. I happily turned it on at the time. I likely could withstand it now, as my resiliency has grown a bit, but I'm still very glad the option was there!

@ZullieTheWitch It's definitely an interesting conversation. A singleplayer game can be too hard, and thus difficulty options are added. Can a horror game be too scary? And should the user be able to change that? Of course it's up to the developer, but I wonder how common it is.

The problem with modern games is there’s just too many dimensions. 3D?! We got by fine with just 2 for decades! & for a bit it seemed like indies might have figured it out but now they’re doing 3D too. Why spend time on a 3rd dimension when you can spend it making ur game good?!
