Sony is in FULL PANIC MODE right now A Discord user named RSantila has reportedly managed to boot Astro Bot on PC using SharpEmu, a PS5 emulator for Windows PC. Astro Bot is a 2024 PS5 exclusive, so seeing it even boot on a PC is a HUGE!!! PS5 emulation development is moving CRAZY fast.

Now, We are still in need of development to run more games. • Three PS5 emulation projects are currently being developed • SharpEmu can already render the 2D game Dreaming Sarah • Silent Hill: The Short Message reaches its opening logos and warning screens • Demon’s Souls Remake can produce its first video frame before entering a loop • RPCSX can boot the PS5 interface, safe mode and test programs • Sound and controller input are reportedly working in RPCSX • No major commercial 3D PS5 game is currently playable on PC This is still early, especially when PS4 emulation remains limited after all these years. Seeing commercial PS5 software rendering anything on PC is headway, and the non-backing of physical or PS3 store games has pushed further development. SEE YOU SOON GTA. 💀

@JunoNoxAstra I never said they looked better, but for decade+ old games they do as good of a job at capturing detailed, well lit scenes as modern UE5 games do, except without the headache of all the buggy optimization issues that come with UE games.

Star Wars Battlefront is a 2015 game that looks better than most modern games and ran maxed out on a GTX 980.

Here's the logic behind this and why it's probably not a bad thing for Indies: Steam's motive is to match players with games they'd like to play / buy - including indie games. Under the old system if your game had enough wishlists, it'd get on the Popular Upcoming list for a few days which would show it to a TON of people but many of those people wouldn't even play that kind of game. Now Steam is adding the Personal Calendar with more visibility than the Popular Upcoming list. And the Personal Calendar is algorithmic so it shows your game to relevant players who might be interested. Also games stay on the Personal Calendar for longer. As far as I can tell this is a huge win for indies. It doesn't matter that the new Popular Upcoming list is going to be all huge titles, the Personal Calendar is the part of this most people are missing.

@Ludvicus Because these games have their own proprietary engines dedicated to them that use baked lighting, which tend to look much nicer than widely outsourced engines like Unreal Engine. That's why games like NFS 2015, MGS5, Infamous Second Son, Killzone etc. Look so good today

People often give the excuse you can just emulate when the store closes down. I want to remind people its not true. The state of emulation is not where you think it is. If they were to close the store right now many 7th gen games will absolutely be lost to time and there is very little we can do about it. Im testing settings to tweak so the performance is great for most people but it's still rough. (The majority are first party exclusives)
