The volunteers have been paid 25k. We hope the organizing team learns from this so 'oversights' like this don't happen again.

Another day to remind ourselves that the @lagosfanti planning committee made a promise they didn't fulfil. No accountability

Imagine if @lagosfanti event planners had used this vendor. 6500*150 volunteers, they would have spent less than a million naira for lunch, and the volunteers would be ok. They chose incompetence and thought their apology would make things right. #LagosProjects

So apparently if we didn't speak up on the WhatsApp group that we didn't get food, we wouldn't have found out that we were supposed to be paid but the people in charge decided to pocket the money!!!!!! @jidesanwoolu @followlasg @lagosfanti

@jidesanwoolu The planning committee made volunteers work from 8 am to 7 pm, and nothing was given to them. They made no provisions for even water. No certificate, Nothing at all.

Today, I was at the Fanti Carnival at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island and it was a lively showcase of culture, with each group bringing its own colours, choreography and strong sense of identity. It was especially meaningful to see historic communities like Campos, Lafiaji, Okoo-Faji, Okepopo, Olowogbowo, Epetedo, and Isale-Eko come together, making the day even more memorable. From the coordinated parades to the music, dance, and vibrant displays by our young people, as well as the energy of the crowd, it was a rich blend of culture and creativity. Today reflects an important part of our heritage that we must continue to preserve and celebrate. We remain committed to supporting cultural platforms that strengthen identity and bring our people together.

We even started begging for food and water and every vendor that was serving shouted at us and chased us away. Please we need answers @jidesanwoolu @followlasg @lagosfanti

We are not slaves neither are we fools The people in charge of Lagos fanti carnival yesterday used every volunteers like slave and at the end of the day, we had nothing to show for it. Nothing!!!!!! @jidesanwoolu @followlasg @lagosfanti

During the first zoom meeting, we asked if we would get tshirts or we were to come with ours, they said there would be tshirts. We got to the event yesterday only for them to tell us they only have 10 tshirts available for over 100 people.

Just to put this year This people did this thing intentionally We asked one of the supervisors and they said provisions were not made for volunteers Another one said they ordered food for volunteers but they didn't follow up Which one should we believe!!!!!

I need to talk about what happened at the Lagos Fanti Carnival today. As a volunteer, I witnessed firsthand how this event was run, and it was a complete failure of organisation and basic human decency. A thread 🧵

I’m honestly beyond angry at this point cos tell me why @lagosfanti called for volunteers and NOT make provision for their welfare? people left their homes, adjusted their schedules, sacrificed their time and this is how the organizations chose to treat us? Shame on you

They initially told us they had only ten shirts for over 100 people, then brought out enough shirts after we complained. They made zero preparations to cater to the people who helped them make the event a success. #Lagosfanticarnival2026 @jidesanwoolu
