Devolution has been a thing since 1998, there really is no excuse for journalists and politicians to mislead and misinform. England is not Britain. Britain is not England. Learn the difference and #SayEngland when you mean England.

"We are at a point where the Resident Doctors Committee's expectations are beyond reasonable." @WesStreeting reacts after The BMA reject more frequent and fairer pay rises, more training places from this year, and more money in resident doctors’ pockets in favour of strikes.

Energy costs are too high for too many schools. That needs to change, and with Labour it will.

Streeting wants the NHS to pay an extra £64billion for overpriced US drugs by 2036 - rather than produce generic drugs at a fraction of the cost He has taken over £370,000 from private health-linked donors; they account for 60% of his donations theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

MPs oppose Wes Streeting’s decision to dictate what the NHS pays for drugs . Quite right too. To appease Trump Govt has agreed to pay £64bn extra for NHS drugs by 2036. No impact assessment published. Can produce generic drugs cheaply locally. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

Patients are waiting for care while doctors are waiting for jobs. The NHS says it is short of doctors yet doctors are struggling to find work at all stages, & recently 1,000 extra speciality training jobs were pulled by Wes Streeting & Keir Starmer. This is a workforce crisis.

@StephenMorganMP Local government reorganisation is not devolution. 100% of our laws are made by the British parliament, there is no devolution in England.

Since the 2024 general election, this Labour government will have passed more than 50 Acts of Parliament, each of which works to rebuild the British state, so that it once again serves the interests of working people. These include:   👷🏻‍♂️The Employment Rights Act, the biggest upgrade in workers’ rights in a generation   🚊The Passenger Public Services (Public Ownership) Act, establishing Great British Rail – a publicly owned and accountable body to improve rail services and keep fares low   ⚡️The Great British Energy Act, establishing a publicly owned organisation to bring clean energy and cheaper bills to British consumers and industry   🏠 The Renters Rights Act, providing renters with security and dignity in housing by outlawing no-fault evictions amongst other protections for private renters   🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 The Removal of Two Child Limit Act, bringing 450,000 children out of poverty and providing security to working families by removing the arbitrary two-child benefit cap.   🌊The Water (Special Measures) Act, reversing the Tory decline in environmental standards and accountability in the water industry, empowering consumers and holding water bosses to account.   👮The Crime and Policing Bill, tackling violence against women and girls, anti-social behaviour and retail crime, whilst rebuilding public confidence in policing and the wider criminal justice system.   🏘️ The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, making good on our promise to give back control to local communities and provide mayors with unprecedented powers to deliver growth.   Labour promised to rebuild our country, and that is exactly what we are delivering. Lots done and lots more to do to restore pride in Britain.

Streeting has used a statutory instrument in parliament (that no-one voted on) to award himself power to dictate what the NHS pays for drugs, overriding NICE’s vital role in insulating the NHS from pharmaceutical price gouging. Starmer has shamelessly caved in to the White House.
Dr Rachel Clarke@doctor_oxford

This may seem arcane, but it’s a deeply concerning & spectacularly cynical move from this government to sideline NICE - the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence - whose role is vitally important in protecting NHS patients from the lobbying clout of the Pharma industry lobby. Until now - and since 1999 - NICE has made independent, evidence-based decisions about which medicines constitute value for money for the NHS to buy. Largely free from political manipulation, it’s renewed internationally as a model of how to protect patients against excessive drug company prices. It enables the NHS to strike hard bargains with Big Pharma. But @wesstreeting has just used a statutory instrument in parliament (that no-one has voted on) to award himself power to dictate what the NHS pays for drugs, overriding NICE’s vital role in insulating the NHS from pharmaceutical price gouging. Why would he do something so self-evidently bad for patients? Because, it seems, this is a price the government is willing to pay to do a deal with Trump on US-UK drug pricing. What an outrageous power grab for a man who claims to care about patients. Already hospitals up and down the country are cutting staff and closing services under pressure to make cost savings. But every pound spent on, essentially, increasing profits for US Pharma is money that *doesn’t* get spent on nurses, doctors and treatments we know are good value for money. As the editor of the BMJ, @KamranAbbasi, wrote this week, this: "will end up harming vulnerable people to boost the profits of already obscenely profitable drug companies." Starmer has shamelessly caved in to the White House. Even the former Tory Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, now a Lord, has joined forces with Labour and Lib Dem MPs opposing Streeting’s power grab. Truly an appalling move from a government that claims they’re rebuilding the NHS while, in this case, blatantly undermining our abilities to provide cost-effective care.

I have expressed my fears about the changes the government are making as a result of the US pharmaceutical deal which undermine the independence of the National Institute (NICE) giving US big pharma potential of immense influence over our drugs policies. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

For over the last 2 years doctors have been warning that lesser skilled staff are being used to ‘deliver care’ There is NO shortage of doctors Doctors are in fact stopped from working in the NHS, made redundant or just forced out. The public is being sold out by politicians @wesstreeting

@DrSteveTaylor British government, English NHS. The problem is we have no English government to run England's NHS. The UK Minister for English Social Care is the MP for Aberafon Maesteg in Wales. Why do you think he is the face of so many announcements? He's unaccountable to English voters.

Govt is rolling out Neighbourhood Health Centres under the premise of bringing care closer to home The question is what care? Hospital care maybe but not community care. 6300 GP practices are with walking distance of 85% of the population, with 50% consulting every month

This story in The Times is a lie. Only the tens of thousands of resident doctor members we represent can agree a deal. Our negotiating team has a clear mandate from our committee and members to get back around the table and that is what the Health Secretary needs to engage with. Time spent briefing out misleading accounts of events would be better spent getting a final deal done.

@TheBMA @SKinnock Very gracious of the MP for Aberafon Maesteg in Wales to give doctors in England who can't hold him to account at the ballot box permission to strike. The BMA should be protesting the appointment of unaccountable UK health ministers for England, not legitimising them. #NoMandate

Doctors are workers, and workers have the right to strike. It’s welcome to hear support for that principle from @SKinnock, especially following recent speculation about restrictions on industrial action for doctors.

✅ The best ambulance response times in half a decade. ✅ Waiting lists at the lowest levels in three years. ✅ Best A&E performance in four years. Health Secretary @wesstreeting praises staff helping to improve the NHS, but is 'frustrated' to narrowly miss other targets.
