Talk about muddying the waters you didn't even bother to include any photos or clips of news publications from wherever you got this information especially considering your close proximity to the Shepard's. Some of that information you referenced comes from a book released by Stephen Jimenez which you can find literally on the Wikipedia page for Matthew Shepard or hell-find a copy of the book. The people in the 90s were perfectly fine using this thing that I am sure you heard about called THEIR MIND and form their own opinions of things (which has no age requirement) with or without the presence of AOL THANK YOU. It still does not change the fact that he was beaten by two individuals and left for dead tied to a fence with small cuts and gashes on his head where he slipped into a coma and died in a hospital. Even the photo I gave says McKinney's attorney tried to set up a gay panic defense where McKinney went insane due to the sexual advance and then in an interview McKinney said that he harmed Shepard because Shepard touched his knee and even McKinney's girlfriend made known to one of the detectives that McKinney was not fond of gays which you can see from the photo that I link below. Would you look at that I can cite all of this research with just a simple google search to a wiki page and you have- lets see.... NONE.

I personally am aware of how serious and problematic the methamphetamine problem was in South East Wyoming at that time. This was my home. I know this because I personally know several of the Laramie police and Albany county sheriffs at that time, my parents knew Mr & Mrs Sheppard and quite a few of their friends. We have mutual friends in common. I met the Sheppard's through mutual friends before Matt was murdered. I am related to people who were affected by this, lived among this, and witnessed this. One of the younger people in my family was running around with one of McKinney's cousins at the time this happened. He was also a problematic boy. You see you can't outsmart the small town and the close ties people have with each other with whatever crap you find on the internet to post. You present testimony and information that I have already stated as if you are proving me wrong when it only supports what I have said. Matt dealt meth. McKinney and Henderson used meth. They robbed him for his money and drugs. Henderson testified and continues to claim to this day that it was a robbery. McKinney was addicted and traded sex with men for drugs or drug money. McKinney had a long history of police encounters for having sex in public. He and Matt were intimate probably for the drugs. Matt made a familiar gesture to him in public that embarrassed him, but not without existing familiarity. That wasn't why McKinney did it regardless of his claim. He lied. The public at the time was led to believe that Matt was unknown to his killers and they chose him because he was gay, which was untrue. McKinney tried to deny his history with Matt in order to get sympathy. It was tactic because he was embarrassed by his homosexual behavior. He was an addict. McKinney was violent. McKinney attacked another man after Matt. He disfigured his face by cutting it with a knife. The news didn't care about him. He wasn't gay. He worked with a member of my family and struggled a lot after that. He died a few years ago. No one cares. The story presented to the world was an artful fabrication. All the details of the drug problems were suppressed outside of court. They lionized Matt and scrubbed out the drug problems. They presented him to the world as some flawless, innocent angel because if the truth of Matt dealing meth got out, the outrage that came with his murder would have not existed. They used the fabricated story of his being killed for just being an innocent gay man, brutally murdered solely for being gay to push through legislation and empower their non profit organizations. They turned him into a martyr and a saint when he was just a troubled young man who was brutally murdered by some really horrible, troubled young men. Had Matt's relationship to McKinney been known, had his drug dealing been made clear to the public, the story would have disappeared in a couple of weeks and been forgotten. I recall the whole thing. You only have threaded together a couple of details since and probably aren't old enough to remember what the news presented and what all the activist organizations presented as the narrative. I know a lot more things that I won't post because they are inconsequential.

A homophobic man killing a gay man is so rare it's difficult to find any viable examples in the last 40 years in the US. Most notably they tend to be in the form of a gay man pretending to be a woman for sex and a straight man reacting violently.

He was killed by two men who were plotting to rob him of drugs/drug money considering Wyoming had a huge methamphetamine crisis back in the late 90s. Their attorneys even said they were plotting to rob him and one of the perps attorney tried to justify the act by claiming he felt he was in emotional turmoil after being touched on the knee by Shepard. They even persuaded both their girlfriends to fabricate alibis before the trial. Don't spread misinformation.
