Day 601 Dear Mom, We made it another hundred days since you were exhumed. Days 0 to 100 were excruciating. Days 101 to 200 were frustrating. Days 201 to 300 were agonizing. Days 301 to 400 were healing. Days 401 to 500 were motivating. Days 501 to 600 were … interesting. Now here we are, 601 days and counting since you were brought back above ground, and four years into my fight for you. I’m still in the arena. When this all began, I promised that I’d get you a fair chance at justice. Because of you, a lot of families now have that same chance. Over the last four years, I’ve learned that impossible is a matter of perspective, grief is the opposite of weakness and love is the greatest strength of all. There were moments along the way where I felt absolutely terrified, and that is not an exaggeration to say — but I still kept going. My voice shook a little when I testified last year, but I still said your name loud and clear. I had doors slammed in my face plenty of times, but still kept knocking for answers about your death. Hundreds of days since this began, I’m still standing, still fighting, still not backing down. I will never back down for you. I wanted the ones who left you, naked and bruised on the floor, to understand they picked the wrong mother. The message was almost certainly received. I’m not concerned about your case anymore, Mom. @FixNOLA I am the victim in the June 29 burglary. I have it on HD video and gave to detectives. Bail went from $25,000 to a free release in days. He was already on probation when he did it, which should have prompted a hold. The criminal justice system is completely broken.
