@TatsunokoCroi @think_starwars "Obi Wan died to let Luke, who he'd been protecting for years escape from the bad guys." Gonna call BS on that. It's an invention after the fact that he was looking after Luke while being there. There's way more to support that he was trying to get Luke to take out Vader.

@think_starwars Obi Wan died to let Luke, who he'd been protecting for years escape from the bad guys. Luke died creating a short distraction that didn't really effect the story for people neither he or the audience cared about or liked, after his mentor said "LOL nothing matters burn it down".

Obi-Wan and Luke died the same way. They didn’t die of wounds. They transformed with peace and purpose. Kenobi didn’t die by Vader’s blade. He transformed into the force just before he was struck. When he lifted his saber refusing to fight, his mission was complete. The force took him. When Luke faced his fears, apologized to Leia and Ben, and distracted the First Order long enough, his mission was complete. The force took him. No pain. Just two old flawed Jedi that finished their missions.

@Rob85491852 @TatooineSons I think the original is a hard thing to honestly criticize because the people who love it right now were introduced to it by people who love it so it gets a lack of criticism without nostalgia. Hell, it's hard to even say what A New Hope is because of the special editions.

@TatooineSons That’s why Star Wars, the original film, was so brilliant. All ages loved it. That is the formula they have to lean into. It’s not easy. Very few shows or movies can do that. But that should be the goal.

I’ve begun to conclude that Andor may have done more damage to Star Wars than The Last Jedi. Andor is unlike anything else Star Wars has done. It is undoubtedly a mature approach to Star Wars that targets adults and only adults. And therein lies the problem. One of the core issues that has plagued Star Wars fandom since the earliest days is the challenge fans have of letting Star Wars stay relevant for a new generation. Return of the Jedi was criticized by 1977 fans for being little more than a toy cash grab using Ewoks. The Prequels were blasted by Original Trilogy fans because it didn’t feel anything like what they experienced 20 years earlier. The Sequel Trilogy saw a completely new generation discover a galaxy far, far away with characters like Rey and Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, grown adults started hashtagging “Not My Star Wars.” And then Andor was released. A dark, grounded, mature Star Wars story that was powerfully written, brilliantly produced, and perfectly acted. And it was in no way for kids. Let me insert here that I love Andor. And I think Andor has a place in Star Wars. We need more shows like Andor. The problem is that too many seem to believe that Star Wars should only be like Andor going forward. If that happens, Star Wars won’t endure. #TheMandalorianandGrogu releases this week. It is clear that in leans into the elements from #TheMandalorian series that are more appropriate for families with kids. And that is exactly what it should be. And already there are those who are criticizing it because it doesn’t have a weight or feeling of a show like Andor. And some of us are trying to remind fans that Star Wars has always been for kids. Only to have fans (mostly adult men who can’t seem to get over the fact that Star Wars could possibly release something not specifically targeted to them) replying to posts with Andor gifs and episode mentions. And this divide is the true divide that Dave Filoni must find a way to navigate. A Star Wars fanbase not divided over The Last Jedi, but over the future of the franchise that was first and foremost a heroes journey mythic tale for children growing into adulthood. I have confidence in Dave Filoni. I think he will find a path through this. What I’m not so confident about is the fanbase’s willingness to accept that.

We know most anti-abortion supporters don't believe abortion is murder because most of them do not support punishing women who have abortions as murderers. No state that bans abortion treats women who have abortions as murderers (or, in fact, as criminals at all). And every time a bill to do so is offered, it dies without ever even coming to a vote. That would not happen if most opponents of abortion genuinely believe it is the moral equivalent of infanticide.

@nickarkis @TatooineSons I didn't say folks didn't matter, I said that the films don't really say that anyone can be "the" hero. 4 - Luke 5 - Arguably Lando 6 - Luke 1 - Obi-Wan 2 - Obi-Wan 3 - Obi-Wan 7 - Rey 8 - Luke 9 - Rey

@JustinPM @TatooineSons There's a difference between something that happens to be the case and something that must be the case. The Skywalker Saga happens to prominently feature the Skywalker family. It does not follow that the conclusion is therefore that one must be from said family to matter.

Can we stop acting like The Last Jedi invented goofy humor in Star Wars? The Ewoks — a bunch of teddy bears with sticks — took down the entire Empire. C-3PO spent three movies convinced everyone was about to die. Jar Jar stepped in poop in literally the first ten minutes. The battle droids said "Roger roger" with the energy of a bored intern. Han Solo's method of fixing a spaceship was hitting it. This franchise has always been kind of ridiculous, and that's exactly why we love it. The Last Jedi didn't change the tone. All it did was lean into.

@hylariousbosch @TatooineSons I friggin' love 'em. Turning the helmets of your enemies into a musical instrument? That's some solid psyop shit. Those teddy bears ate their enemies. That's metal as fuck. It's also great because the fascists underestimate their opponents and overestimate their competency.

@nickarkis @TatooineSons Hard to say that the films say that anyone can be the hero when it's focused entirely on like three families. TFA could've went there, but instead he sidelined Finn and put everything behind Rey.

@TatooineSons It also didn't "democratize the Force" or say that anyone, even a nobody from nowhere, can be the hero. Those ideas have both already been part of Star Wars since 1977.

@bacchenko @Pickled_Rage @TatooineSons So Han stalling with humor is different because of the position in the film? I'd argue that that'd be more egregious because he's doing that in the first damn movie, not the seventh.

@KevinLamb74 Star Wars is not a fairy tale. Obi-Wan cuts a dude's arm off less than an hour into the movie. Han shoots a guy at nearly point blank. Luke comes back to the smoldering corpses of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Leia's entire home planet is murdered.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Andor's grim portrayal of homicidal rebels was dumb. Screw Luthen, Saw Gerrera, and Andor himself. Star Wars is a fairy tale. The good guys are good. Han in ANH and Lando in ESB is as gray as they get (which is to say, not very.) To say that the ends justify the means misses the entire point of Anakin's fall.

@SugarAutismos @DRIVRIDLY Lucas gave us Greedo shooting first with a bad effect. Jabba in the first film in some unused footage. He gave us an ass-kicking Padme who then died of a broken heart after having two kids. Lucas wasn't doing a fantastic job either, but I still see value in those films.

James Talarico was absent when it mattered most. When Texas lawmakers voted on Jocelyn's Law -- named for a 12-year-old Houston girl sexually assaulted and strangled by illegal immigrants -- Talarico was a no-show. Before that, he voted against the Damon Allen Act -- against bail restrictions for violent sexual offenders. And called illegal immigrants "my constituents." Jocelyn Nungaray's family deserved better. Texas deserves better. Talarico can run for U.S. Senate. But he can't run from his record. foxnews.com/politics/dem-r…

This gets accused of being pandering, but that's obviously not true, because the reality is that no other director--none--would have considered having a Yoda duel, having that duel be against a 6'5" opponent, and then playing that duel completely straight. They'd be afraid of the reaction and they wouldn't do it. The Yoda fights only exist because George Lucas is crazy.

The Holdo Maneuver is visually stunning. The Holdo Maneuver is emotionally devastating. The Holdo Maneuver is a perfect act of sacrifice. But... "Why hasn't anyone done this before?" Because you have to ram your ship — at lightspeed — into the enemy fleet. Which means everyone on your ship dies. Including yourself. So, you have to evacuate the ship first. Or you're killing everyone you're trying to save. It's not a tactic. It's a goodbye.
