The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day... I got in.

I’d love a grant to cover the costs of a blackmagic 3D camera and travel expenses to capture the scale of the dynamic world we live in. Tornados, caves, monuments, and the countless stories to be told. #spatialVideo #dreams

Would highly recommend binging Kent's voices of VR podcast to anyone interested in industry and its history.
Kent Bye (Voices of VR)@kentbye

@Anticleric I totally agree, which is why I've interviewed 460+ immersive storytellers on the Voices of VR podcast, including the Wolves in the Walls at festivals like Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, FIVARS, Venice Immersive, IDFA DocLab, and dozens of fests. It's out there. voicesofvr.com/category/enter…

@juliendorra As a dev, I agree. apps in App Lab are not searchable. Options for submitting apps are very limited. Bring down the App Lab wall already!

There are more Vision Pro apps than Quest Store apps in just 2 weeks. Why? Because Meta has undermined its developer ecosystem, creating a fragile, incoherent, and incomplete development chain, with a store that is hostile to the majority of developers 1/4 techcrunch.com/2024/02/14/app…

Whatever happened to the extremely cool 80s TV genre of "Shows based on a single extremely technically advanced vehicle"? Airwolf, Knight Rider, Viper, Blue Thunder, etc. It was an amazing genre that should return to inspire modern youth. youtube.com/watch?v=9Jbbxz…

“A study reveals that 56% people owns Vision Pro” I wanted to get some data on how well AVP eye tracking works before ranting about it. 164 AVP owners is a good sample size. There are 3 key elements why I don’t think “eye-tracking first” is a good approach “Eyes should be in the future” - if you ever tried any of the extreme sports, you know that in all cases working with gaze is one of the first things they try to teach you. When drifting in a car, look at where you want to go, not where you are going. Same with recreational flying, first look where you want to go, THEN initiate the turn. Eyes are always looking at what you want to go next, instead of what you’re doing. This, for me, creates a major mismatch between how I Am trained to work with gaze and how AVP requires me to work with gaze. Accuracy is not perfect, only 21% of owners report perfect tracking accuracy. This means that often you need to consciously try to get the desired result. Sometimes you need to zoom the window you’re using, sometimes you need to actively aim above or below the target to register, and especially in non-native apps. (X for Vision Pro, when?). This is exhausting and frustrating to some degree. If the eye-tracking accuracy would be perfect, then it could potentially feel magical, but it seems for the majority of the people it’s not. Lastly, I believe this is a contributing factor to eye-strain. I cannot use my vision pro for more than an hour due to eye-strain and other people reported similar issues (might do another poll). I’ll get myself a trackpad keyboard to use with AVP to see where that can get me. But I would prefer having a quest-like handtracked laser pointer as an option.

We’re cancelling January’s meetup this Thursday to give our co-organizers and members space to grieve and remember this wonderful human. We’re planning a celebration of Jon’s life in February so our whole community can come together and do what Jon loved most: talking about VR❤️

The VR industry has lost a titan that was a critical part of the story of so many developers and creators, and was a steward of the next generation of VR developers and creators at San Jose State University. The SVVR community grieves, and will never be the same without him.

💔 @JonVirtual was such a strong leader, community connector, and has always been super supportive of not only my work but the work of so many people in the VR community and fire keeper of @SVVRLIVE. Heart broken to hear about his sudden passing over the weekend.

With a heavy heart we regret to inform you that our beloved co-organizer and friend Jon Oakes has passed away. He was kind and generous to every single person who crossed his path and he always wore a smile. Our hearts are broken, and our thoughts are with his family.

@kentbye I think the vision pro is great for content creation use cases so we'll try and get one to port VStreamer Live.
