I see a lot of pessimism about non-programmers building useful and innovative things with claude code. The key question isn't whether someone is a programmer or not, though that helps. It hinges instead on three things: (1) whether they actually have an innovative idea. (2) whether can they prompt well, and then understand the tradeoffs in significant design choices. (3) whether they have the time/grit to see it through.

The Patriarch of Georgia solved the demographic problem in Georgia.   In the late 2000s, Georgia was facing a serious demographic problem, with birth rates dropping dramatically. In 2007, Patriarch Ilia II, a figure with huge influence in the country, decided to act practically.  He publicly promised that he would personally baptize every third child (and the next) of every Orthodox family, provided that the parents are married in a religious marriage.  These baptisms are not held individually, but are organized as large group ceremonies at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (Sameba) in Tbilisi, usually several times a year.  Patriarch Ilia II became the official godfather of the children. Hundreds of babies are baptized simultaneously in each ceremony. The late Patriarch (who passed away in March 2026) had become the godfather of more than 50,000 children in Georgia.  The move is considered by many analysts and journalists as one of the main reasons for the birth "explosion" observed in Georgia in recent years.  For a deeply religious country, having the Patriarch as their child's spiritual father was a supreme honor.

Occasionally I’ll get a notification that someone liked this old post and it reminds me of how fun bitcoin twitter was during that time. I feel like I don’t see a lot of newbies around wanting to learn this stuff anymore. Am I just out of the loop? Or are we just not fun anymore?

I’m back. Will be pushing on agentic bitcoin payments and building things agents will actually pay for. First step was getting @moneydevkit working on @Cloudflare. Required building a custom @lightningdevkit node that compiles to wasm to run on cloudflare’s js runtime and take advantage of their tcp, storage, and durable object apis. Khaled was imprisoned by the Islamic State and tortured in an attempt to discover the location of the ancient artifacts, but he never broke. Khaled is a true hero of humanity; he sacrificed his life to protect our collective history while “eco activists” seek to destroy it. Dr. Khaled al Assad was publicly beheaded by the Islamic State on August 18 2015, aged 83. May his memory be an eternal blessing.
