Today at Cerritos College we held a debate in a designated free speech area on a public campus. Campus police shut us down and threatened arrest over words. When we asked what law we broke or what policy we violated, they couldn’t answer. Public colleges are government institutions. The First Amendment applies here. Threatening arrest without identifying a law isn’t enforcement — it’s intimidation. Free speech doesn’t require permission.
