@BigJohn043 Wouldn’t this make the better question to ask when evaluating a business not how much is the owner involved but rather are the things the owner is doing within my skill set/ can be easily converted into a simpler process?

On the one hand, I am impressed that the buyer here had the discipline to pull back after investing a ton of time and money. That shows real discipline and should be applauded. On the other hand, who did he think was running the business? Businesses don't run themselves. And even if you have a manager running it day to day that person can leave at the drop of the hat. Don't ever buy a business that you aren't willing to step in and run day to day. And if you believe that the owner isn't really involved without a clear manager in the organization, then you are too naive to buy a business. And just because the owner is working all hours it doesn't mean that you have to. Most owners are pretty bad at building basic process that would free them up. Rant over....

@PEoperator My thinking is even if everything checks out with the major customers and there is still little risk of them leaving, if one of them does leave that could put me in serious default risk. So I have to make a multiple adjustment btwn 0.5-1x of what I would’ve been willing to pay.
