I chaired a consultative meeting of EAC Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence, focusing on the security situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our discussions underscored the urgent need for a unified regional approach, reinforcing the role of strategic partnerships in advancing peace and stability. With a shared commitment to addressing emerging security threats, the meeting explored diplomatic and operational interventions to support lasting solutions. The recommendations from this session will shape the next steps in our collective response to the evolving situation. In attendance were CS Defence @HonTuya, CS EAC Beatrice Askul, and ministers from member states. This engagement sets the stage for the upcoming joint ministerial session scheduled for March 17 in Harare.

As Chair of the East African Community (EAC), I received a high-level delegation from President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo to discuss the escalating situation in Eastern DRC. We discussed the options on the way forward as agreed during the Joint Summit of EAC-SADC in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the African Union Peace and Security Council meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The delegation was led by MP and former Deputy Prime Minister Lambert Mende. Others were President Tshisekedi's High Representative Sambu Mambu, Public Works minister Alexis Gisaro and Trade minister Julien Paluku.

The escalating deteriorating peace and security situation in the DRC is of grave concern. The humanitarian crisis is being exacerbated by ongoing military actions, including the closure of airspace in Goma. I call for the immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities, emphasise the obligation of all parties to facilitate humanitarian access to affected populations and urge both sides to pursue peaceful means to resolve this tragic conflict. As chair of the EAC, I call on the parties to the Luanda process and my brothers, President Félix Tshisekedi and President Paul Kagame, both of whom I have spoken to this evening, to heed the call for peace from the people of our region and the international community. After consulting the Heads of State of EAC Member States, we will convene an Extraordinary Summit in the next 48 hours to chart the way forward. The EAC stands ready to forge stronger collaboration with the African Union, Southern African Development Community and the international community in encouraging the warring parties to give priority to dialogue.

ARRIVAL OF THE THIRD CONTINGENT OF KENYAN POLICE OFFICERS TO THE HAITI MISSION

Kenya will keep strengthening our cordial relations with China, focusing on infrastructure development, trade and investment and collaborating in climate change mitigation. We will also continue working together under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to accelerate economic growth and mutual benefit for our two nations. Received credentials from the newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan, State House, Nairobi. Our best wishes to the new envoy as we pursue mutually-beneficial cooperation between our two countries.
