Grail secured. Archetype by @kGolid. The deeper I dive into digital art, the more curiosity turns into passion. Exploring this iconic collection, I found myself gravitating more toward chaos than order. The Docks color palette is pretty unique and the maroon wedge is doing a lot of work to keep the piece interesting no matter how many times I look at it. Anyway, this one went straight to the vault. Onward we go. 🤙

When an artwork lives inside a workspace building, people can enjoy it every day ❤️ The piece is a non-repetitive animation: site-specific and reactive—living and breathing with its surroundingst, atuned to the atmosphere and following its rhythm, whether calm or stressed.

Over the years I’ve tried many ways to sort color palettes. This is a compilation of different strategies: Hilbert curves, ΔE graphs, PCA, and TSP-style optimization: all trying to answer the same question: what is the “smoothest” order of colors? -> no clear winner...

Archetype #367, by @kGolid Kjetil Golid is best known for his signature grammar of cuboid shapes, black lines, and characteristic ‘chromotome’ colour palettes that became instantly recognisable motifs following his 2021 ArtBlocks release, Archetype. With a background in graphic design, cognitive science, and later computer science, Golid has long been interested in systems and structures. Often characterised by geometric grid-like forms in unique colour combinations, Golid’s works are reminiscent of futuristic cityscapes constructed from technicoloured building blocks arranged in ever-evolving and repeating patterns. “The cuboid is a very efficient shape. It is easy to draw and easy to arrange, and is thus a great vessel for portraying various kinds of patterns, arrangements, and symmetries. It is efficient in the real world too, which makes it a very popular shape for man-made structures. Our brain is therefore quick to associate patterns of cuboids with city areas, buildings, traffic systems, circuit boards etc.” Archetype was built on the concept of rectangle partitioning, which is the act of splitting a rectangle into smaller rectangles. The series explores the use of repetition as a counterweight to unruly, random structures. As each single component looks chaotic alone, the repetition brings along a sense of intentionality, ultimately resulting in a complex, yet satisfying expression. Archetype #367 is a notable, rare “Corner” Archetype in the “Yellow Spider” palette, and underscores the simple beauty of Golid’s code-based practice. ◆ Reserve bid: $88,000 (~20 ETH) ◆ Auction concludes: September 16th, 6.35pm BST | 1.35pm ET

Mondays are great days for reminiscing on past SOLOS exhibitions. Kjetil Golid Monument Installed so beautifully (if I may say so) at our galleries in February 2024. We even 3D-printed some works to echo the pieces.
