Kenya Wins Bid to Host Green Climate Fund Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa Kenya has emerged as a regional climate leader following its successful bid to host the Eastern and Southern Africa office of the @theGCF, with Nairobi set to serve as the hub. The decision, finalized at the 44th GCF Board meeting in Songdo from 25–28 March 2026, marks the culmination of a rigorous multi-stage process that began with a strategic shift to decentralize the Fund’s operations. Under Decision B.41/10, the Board approved the establishment of regional offices to enhance geographical balance and operational efficiency. This was followed by a subsequent decision that set out the criteria for selecting host countries, with support from the UNFCCC. A global call for proposals attracted interest from 47 developing countries, including 17 from Africa, underscoring the competitiveness of the process. At its 44th meeting, the Board reviewed detailed assessments and selected Kenya alongside other host countries, cementing Nairobi’s position as a strategic hub for climate finance access and coordination. In the same decision, the GCF Board also announced other regional hosts: Côte d’Ivoire for West, Central, and North Africa; Panama City for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Jordan for Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. The Nairobi office is expected to enhance access to climate finance, strengthen regional partnerships, and accelerate climate action across Eastern and Southern Africa. Dr. Pacifica Ogola, Director of Climate Change and a representative of the Africa Group of Negotiators on the GCF Board, was present at the meeting, further reinforcing Kenya’s influence in global climate finance decision-making.

Kenyan applicants are hereby notified that Portuguese visa applications are now processed at the Embassy of Portugal in Nairobi.

With President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique, presided over the Kenya International Investment Conference held in Nairobi. We unveiled investments worth $2.9 billion by 20 investors from nine countries in agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, business process outsourcing, healthcare, energy, and real estate.

Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo Commences Three-Day Official Visit to Kenya: His Excellency Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Mozambique, arrived in Kenya last evening for a three-day official visit from 24th to 26th March 2026, at the invitation of His Excellency William Samoei Ruto. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, President Chapo was received by the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, @MusaliaMudavadi . The visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to review the current state of bilateral relations and exchange views on key regional and global developments. During his stay, President Chapo is scheduled to attend the 4th Kenya International Investment Conference (KIICO) in Nairobi as the Chief Guest of Honour. Kenya and Mozambique are expected to advance discussions on enhancing trade facilitation, strengthening private sector linkages, and improving connectivity, including direct flights between Nairobi and Maputo, as part of efforts to boost economic cooperation. The visit builds on outcomes from the ministerial segment of the Third Session of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation, with both countries seeking to expand collaboration in trade, investment, energy, and security.

On 13th March, 2026 , the High Commissioner received Colonel Awino who is in Mozambique as part of the National Defense College delegation.

The two discussed areas of mutual interest and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in investment and export promotion between Kenya and Mozambique.

13.03 .2026: The High Commissioner held a meeting with Mr. Luís Maçhava, Director General , Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Exports (APIEX) of Mozambique.

Both Kenya and Mozambique have significantly strengthened their bilateral relations, with a key focus on agricultural cooperation, particularly following a state visit by H.E. William S. Ruto to Mozambique in August 2023.

05.03.2026 : The High Commissioner met Hon. Roberto Mito Albino, the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP) of Mozambique. Discussions centred on matters of mutual interest.

The purpose of the event was to convey President Chapo's best wishes for the year to the diplomatic corps accredited to Mozambique & to provide an update on his first year in office. He also expressed appreciation for the diplomatic corps’ support during the recent floods.

On 19th February 2026, the High Commissioner joined H.E Daniel Chapo, President of Mozambique, & Her Excellency Gueta Selemane Chapo, First Lady of Mozambique, at the annual engagement with members of the diplomatic corps.

In recognition of the life and work of Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai, the African Union set aside 3 March each year as #WangariMaathaiDay, observed together with #AfricaEnvironmentDay. This decision highlights that protecting Africa’s natural resources is key to the continent’s development. It is a call for governments, institutions, communities, and young people to take stronger action on climate change, fight desertification and biodiversity loss, and include environmental protection in national and regional plans.
