The best programmers don't write code anymore. They write a spec. A test. An eval. T Then they turn the AI on and walk away for hours. It runs. It ships. They review. Evals are the unlock most devs are sleeping on. Here's how top agent teams build them right.

~3000 calories per day = 22m calories in 20 years =~ 25k kw - assume 10x inefficiency in production = 250k kw ~ assume 10 kw per hour to run a 8x H100 machine = 25k*8 = 200k gpu hours llama3 8b took 1.3m gpu hours (~6 people), 405b took 31m (~150 people) this doesn't count all the experiments leading up to the run - likely 10-100x the cost

🚨 SAM ALTMAN: “People talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model … But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart.”

Hot take: good code doesn’t exist. For the last 16 years, I’ve been pushing myself every time beyond the task requirements to produce the most readable and maintainable code I could. It still looks like shit.
Lukáš Hozda@LukasHozda

Hotter take: Don't write shit code Writing better code rarely takes much longer than writing shit code and when you have to work around the follies of your youth, you end up burning even more time. That being said, refactoring is fun

Screw you all, I'm just going to prove that I can automate a development team. Give me one good reason why it wouldn't it work to the point that one highly skilled person couldn't command a team of agents that would be the equivalent of at least 10 engineers? So if the industry got slashed to only the top 10% of engineers are needed. Don't you think that is reason for concern?

Dark corner of a cozy ramen shop ... just a few notes of Coast to Coast AM bumper music is enough to system-reset my brain, like the Snow Crash "nam shub".

System Design interview question. You’re writing your own Google Search or ChatGPT, and you need to download the whole Internet. How would you download it?

I don't understand why people need laptops with lots of storage. I can barely fill 1TB. What are you all storing on your machines?

Ooooh. Jujutsu just merged an initial `bisect` implementation. This is currently the ONLY command I still use the `git` binary for. I might be able to be fully Git CLI free after the next jj release... github.com/jj-vcs/jj/pull…

From my conversation with @hubermanlab, here's why you shouldn't believe any scientist who says they know for certain that God doesn't exist. Science can & does adjudicate ideas about how the world works. But it can't answer whether God is out there. hubermanlab.com/episode/scienc…

UN rightly laments that 3.5x more people die in Europe from heat-related causes than do Americans from guns every year, but instead of recommending AC as the obvious answer, these are their suggestions 🤯. Eco death cult.
