WEEKEND REFLECTION: “NONE of us has to fail for ALL of us to succeed. And in unity there is strength.” - @VP Kamala Harris, US Vice President (2021-2024) and Democratic Presidential Candidate at the Democratic National Convention, The quote above led me to reflect on the meaning and implications for our situation in Nigeria. Feelings of envy require that EVERYONE fails for ONE to succeed. Envy is quite prevalent amongst the key actors in our political system. Competence, capacity, and commitment are some personal leadership qualities that attract the envy of those lacking or deficient in these indices. Instead of striving to attain, the envious seeks to hate and destroy those that are better. Envy leads to hatred. Hatred leads to destructive thoughts and actions, including unspeakable crimes like perjury, malicious prosecution, persecution, unlawful imprisonment, torture and even murder for the target(s) of the envy. Can the incurable disease of envy amongst Nigerians, particularly within the members of the political class be cured? Personally, I doubt it. The emerging problem of Nigeria is the outcome of the continuously deteriorating competence, capacity and commitment of the political leadership. Societies succeed or fail depending on these personal and institutional qualities. No matter what, the incurable virus of ENVY has to be confronted and degraded, if not cured, if Nigeria is to achieve its manifest destiny of greatness and leadership of the Black Race. I pray this can be realized. Amen. - Nasir @elrufai

PRESS RELEASE NNPC Ltd is not owing $6.8bn The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to a media report that the company is indebted to international oil traders to the tune of $6.8bn and that it has not remitted revenues to the Federation Account since January, among other allegations. Consequently, the following clarifications have become necessary: 1. That NNPC Ltd. does not owe the sum of $6.8bn to any international trader(s). In the oil trading business, transactions are carried out on credit, and so it is normal to owe at one point or the other. But NNPC Ltd., through its subsidiary, NNPC Trading, has many open trade credit lines from several traders. The company is paying its obligations of related invoices on a first-in-first-out (FIFO) basis. 2. It is not correct to say that NNPC Ltd. has not remitted any money to the Federation Account since January. NNPC Ltd. and all its subsidiaries remit their taxes to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) regularly. This is in addition to payments of CIT to road contractors under the Road Investment Tax Credit Scheme. In all, NNPC Ltd. is the largest contributor to the tax revenue shared every month at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). 3. On the issue of quality/quantity fiscalization of imported petroleum products, NNPC Ltd. has no role whatsoever as it is not a regulator. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which is the relevant regulatory agency in charge of such issues, is an independent body and does not report to the NNPC Ltd. 4. That NNPC Ltd. is not averse to inquiries by the media into issues on and around its operations before dissemination to the public either through the print or electronic channels of communication as the company will, always, gladly take the opportunities to state the facts of the subject matter(s). This is in line with the company's commitment to the Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence (TAPE) philosophy as emplaced by the Mele Kyari-led management since stepping into the saddle in 2019. President Tinubu took two disastrous decisions that are very inflationary, floating the Naira and removal of subsidies. Except he makes moves to honestly address this situation, we will continue to suffer. Solutions. Be honest with Nigerians about subsidies Re work the NNPC Ensure food production—massively Stop crude oil theft Look for ways to raise revenue, gas and other sectors Cut government waste Produce food Isn’t it time to stop the hike of rates Promote growth in the business sector Improve logistics of food distribution, use rail. Provides alternative energy systems Invest in cheaper mass transit Let’s brainstorm

My fellow Nigerians, Today, I address you with a sense of responsibility, as we navigate through these times. The protests, which turned violent in some parts of our nation, have caused unimaginable pain and loss, particularly to the families of those who have tragically lost their lives. Our nation’s resources are stretched thin as we rebuild what has been destroyed. As your President, I am committed to ensuring public order and protecting the lives and property of every Nigerian. We must come together, suspending further protests, and embrace dialogue for the sake of our nation’s unity and progress. Despite the challenges, our government is making significant strides. We have doubled government revenues by blocking leakages and introducing automation, reduced debt service, and launched major infrastructure projects. Initiatives like the Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, the MSME Hubs, and the Renewed Hope City and Estate projects aim to improve the quality of life for all Nigerians. To drive down the cost of food and medicines, I have ordered the suspension of duties on critical food items and medical supplies for the next six months, in the first instance, while I can also confirm to you that billions of Naira worth of tractors and planting equipment purchased from US, Brazil and Belarus, are already on the way to our country. We have also shown our commitment to the youth with programs like the student loan scheme and the Digital and Creative Enterprises initiative, which will create millions of jobs. Let us choose hope over fear, unity over division, and progress over stagnation. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come. Forward Ever, Backward Never! Thank you for your attention, and may God bless our great nation

@officialABAT When Good luck Jonathan removed fuel subsidy in 2012 and fuel price hiked to N147 per litre, Nigerians including president Tinubu protested, He listened to them and reversed the price of fuel to N87 per litre.

BREAKING: The 33 Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State have jointly decided to break away from the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON). They want to form a new association. They insist that the FG should keep paying their allocation via the State machinery. They are saying they are with Governor Makinde’s stance on LG autonomy.
