@KalayaSteede Start with size and coloration. Honey bees are medium size and have pollen baskets. Take photos and use an app such as Seek to help identify to family or genus. Have fun!

Finally, temps above 55 F! Today at local park, pussy willow was buzzing with activity including many #bee genera —Andrena, Colletes, Lasioglossum, Halictus, Nomada, and Ceratina. Colletes inaequalis females beginning nest construction this week, one month later than last year.

Found a new nesting population of the prong-backed fly-hunting wasp (Oxybelus uniglumis). Female carries prey (flies) impaled on her sting! This crabronid wasp nests in compacted or loose sand. Goldenrod was the preferred forage plant at this site. #wasplove #wasps #pollinators

Found this Hoplisoides nebulosus female returning to her nest with a widefooted treehopper. This wasps nests in sandy sites; nest has 1-3 cells, each stocked with 10-15 treehoppers. While she perches or excavates, female holds her spotted wings upward. #wasps #beneficialinsects
