Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form. Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. She was on the today show this week as they're in Jamaica, jumping around talking about she's Jamaican. She's Jamaican while her whole career was her playing Black American characters but now that she got her Emmy she's a Jamaican. She's half Jamaican which she kept quiet until now.

I’ve been beating this drum: by making traditional signals of effort/information obsolete (eg writing a thoughtful email), AI will *increase* the value of social capital and networks.
This is not a good outcome: information technology was supposed to “flatten” interactions. But I don’t see a solution on the horizon.

AI agents seem to be killing the ability to do cold outreach. Look at it from my perspective — someone who gets dozens of unsolicited invitations/requests in my email from strangers every day. In the past there used to be a sharp distinction between unpersonalized mass emails and those that were meant specifically for me. My spam filter could mostly automate this classification, and it even when it didn't, it would take me only a few seconds to tell if an email was worth reading/responding to. Now the distinction is gone because it is trivial to use AI to send out mass emails that appear deeply knowledgeable about each recipient's work and expertise. I guess we have to go back to the bad old days of needing to be "introduced" to someone before communicating with them.

Every now and then I hear someone say "Even if LLMs never get any better it’s enough to cause another Industrial Revolution" and I can never tell whether they’re drastically overestimating the current LLMs or drastically underestimating the Industrial Revolution.

I just wrote a 5,300 word essay. Should I yeet it out as one long essay or split it into two parts? A normal essay on Hyperdimensional is 2.5-3k words. The risk to two parts is neither half can sustain itself without the other; the risk to one is obviously overwhelming readers.

As a 35 year old Jamaican, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of the problems we face in the country don’t require money (or a lot of it) to solve. It requires:
1. Somebody or a group of people giving a damn
2. Competence
One or both sometimes in short supply.
