@coach_kevin_m Excellent thread, Kevin.
This reminds me of the key distinction between intrinsic & extrinsic motivation/confidence.
You’re actually “building” this internally when relating matchday to training (and using the other tools mentioned)
But the team talk is often more extrinsic!
Something I've learned about match day confidence over the years
Last-minute pep talks might get players hyped, but real confidence comes from preparation and my "no surprises" rule.
Here's how I think about building genuine match confidence... 👇
Arteta's New Attacking Blueprint
- Transformed Left Hand Side
- Maverick Left Back
- New Chance Creation Avenues
- Ødegaard platformed better
- Increased Verticality

@SkySportsPL First prem game and already labelling his players as naïve?
Even if true/what he feels does it need to be said? If it does, why publicly?
This makes me wonder what coach-player relationships are like. Hopefully he’s building them a bit better behind the scenes.
This is one of my favourite sessions.
It can be used with any age or ability groups, as long as we know how to adapt and modify the size, challenges and expectations to suit.
One that I shared with @TheS_Resource this week.
Most youth players don’t play enough games.
Training is important, but football is learned in matches. Too much practice, too little competition = slow development.
Any step 6/7players looking for a game this weekend give me a shout . Ive got an chelmsford based club looking for players . The manager is vastly experienced and they can pay a small amount of exspenses
