@KennedyWandera_ @UdoiRateng There is no high stake, and it will be stupid of him to disolve the parliement. The national assembly is the PEOPLE. That is the last thing he want to go against.

Yes. He has an option to dissolve the National Assembly in November for a snap parliamentary election within 60-90 days but there's no guarantee that this election will give him a reprieve. It is an incredibly high-stakes political gamble. As it is, a snap election could return another massive Sonko-controlled PASTEF majority National Assembly. I don't think he will attempt. He'll negotiate with Sonko.

PASTEF–Les Patriotes, the ruling political movement that swept #Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye #Faye to power in 2024, has unanimously reelected Ousmane #Sonko as its president during an ongoing party Congress in Dakar. The party describes the vote as a renewal of its “unshakable confidence” in the former Prime Minister, now president of Senegal’s National Assembly. The party has also announced that about 60 political parties and citizen movements have joined its ranks under a newly signed merger charter. The Congress comes amid growing questions about President Faye’s future within the party, even though he continues to govern independently. The two leaders fell out over Senegal’s public debt crisis and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, a dispute that led President Faye to dismiss Sonko as prime minister and dissolve the previous government. This historic fracture leaves Senegal in a state of political gridlock, where the country's dominant party, PASTEF, controls the legislature but is completely separated from the newly formed government.

The global sulphur market continues to tighten: In addition to banning the export of its own sulphur, Russia has now also halted the export of Kazakh sulphur from Russian ports, its primary export route. This has particularly impacted net importers like Morocco, which sourced ~45% of its sulphur imports from Kazakhstan in 2025. Office Chérifien des Phosphates Group (OCP), the Moroccan state-owned fertilizer producer is cutting back production by 30% citing lack of available sulphur or sulphuric acid. The sulphuric acid we produce at our Kamoa-Kakula copper smelter is vital for maintaining other copper and cobalt mining operations across the DRC Copperbelt. We are currently retendering and repricing the sulphuric acid offtake contracts, with the latest contract priced at $725/tonne.

I am back from my trip to #DRC. I'm still processing what I just experienced but, in light of recent news, I want to say just three things: 1. DRC remains one of the most dynamic and alive nations on Earth, due entirely to a generation of young Congolese who know exactly what they want from their country and are actively pursuing it. 2. DRC's best business opportunities for global investors is not mining but the rest of the productive sector - manufacturing, construction, transport, etc- and in partnership with family-run, Congolese-owned companies. 3. DRC governance is clearly improving given the ease by which I was able to travel to and conduct business in Mbandaka, Kinshasa, Matadi, Boma, and Muanda. The primary issue, however, remains corruption - petty and large - that weakens governance, makes life too hard for average Congolese, and invites aggression and exploitation by foreign nations. I return to the US more confident than ever that despite its many challenges, #DRC remains among the world's most exciting emerging nations.

@akech_andrew DR Congo is not in Eastern Africa but Central. Plus Congo has such as low GDP per capita to be even ranked in the top 10. You also forgot another East African country Ethiopia that borders Kenya with a longer borderline than that of South Sudan on the NW part of Kenya.

#DRCongo's Tshisekedi is hinting at a third term. Same old script: The past decade, over a dozen African nations have ditched term limits. Freedom scores drop, corruption spikes, growth stalls. Term limits = guardrails for accountability, real prosperity. bbc.com/news/articles/…

One of my greatest regrets from my time as US AsstSecState for Africa was advocating for US to support Tshisekedi as winner of Congo's 2018 election. I thought he would really be different and advance the Congolese people's interests. How wrong I was! africanews.com/2026/05/07/drc…

Kabila is Congolese. M23 is Congolese. The instability is caused by the Congolese regime. But SOMEHOW you still found a way to twist like a kebab just to involve Rwanda. Liars. Just say you want to exacerbate a regional conflict in order to line your pockets AS USUAL

Mr @US_SrAdvisorAF, The Democratic Republic of the Congo does not need externally imposed interpretations of its crisis or solutions shaped by individual or geopolitical interests. Sustainable peace cannot be engineered from afar or anchored solely in punitive approaches. For true stability, Congolese-led and inclusive processes must remain central. Lasting peace will emerge only when voices and realities on the ground are prioritized over strategic narratives. Referencing initiatives such as the Washington Accords framework or external actors, must not replace the fundamental principle of sovereignty and internal ownership of solutions. The DRC deserves genuine partnerships that strengthen, rather than substitute, internal efforts to resolve conflict.
U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs@US_SrAdvisorAF

"President Trump is paving the way for peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and ‌he has been clear that those who continue to sow instability will be held accountable…Treasury will continue to use its full range of tools to support the integrity of the Washington Accords." - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

@AleshOfficiel Mate here u got it wrong! Our finance ministry and minister @LikundeR are underperforming. it's more reactionary than proactive. The fuel debacle in Katanga, ~$800m in corruption, is a clear example that the ministry doesn’t have proper control over its state organs (DGDA)
