As I spent these past days writing a piece about slavery in Dahomey, and some Facebook friends were asking for references and readings, I invite you to check The Woman King Syllabus which we created for the launch of the movie The Woman King in 2022. The syllabus has many readings that can be useful for you all interested in Dahomey and women #slaveryarchive womankingsyllabus.github.io

The first half of my journey home this evening was hell - it was raining, the traffic was solid from Longwall St along Marston Rd, cars blocking the cycle lane, fumes, misery. The second half, on the @marstonbikepath, was amazing - damp hedges, birds, berries, autumn scents.

What a surprise. Moves are afoot to remove exceptions for vans from the traffic filters, if they go in. Also, car club exceptions. What's next?

Oxford’s traffic filter plan unveiled: roads will be closed to private cars at 6 locations, now including St Clements. Blue badge holders & taxis will be exempt. The aim is “to work together to reduce traffic on roads with high volumes of buses & cyclists” oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/road…

@Yee_Jenn @Louis_Preece @PeterBarnett @OxfordClarion As said the cycle path stops before it reaches Summertown, however, the motivation for that bus gate is stopping busses being stuck in traffic, not primarily improving cycling. There is talk of a new bus route, for which that bus gate is deemed essential to make it viable.

Federal student loan debt has weighed heavily on our nation, preventing people from starting a family, buying a home, or starting a small business. Today, @POTUS announced our Administration will cancel $10,000 in federal student loan debt for millions of Americans.

theguardian.com/world/2022/aug… Today is Intl Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, chosen as the 1st day of the 1791 insurrection of enslaved people in Haiti. They turned a fight among free people into a revolution against slavery. The UK should honour this day.
