Today, as we remember the 1.5 million innocent lives lost in the Armenian Genocide 111 years ago, we also stand in solidarity with Armenians around the world, including those who continue to face displacement and hardship. We honor the memory of those who were lost by speaking the truth, educating future generations, and standing firmly against denial and injustice.

Joint statement from me and @MayorOfLA: “This afternoon, we met with @POTUS and Administration officials to advocate for families who lost everything. We had a very positive discussion about @fema and other rebuilding funds, as well as the support of the President to continue joining us in pressuring the insurance companies to pay what they owe – and for the big banks to step up to ease the financial pressure on LA families. Our job is to fight for our communities. When it comes to this recovery, our federal partners are essential, and we are grateful for the support of the President.”

I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Victor Zepeda, a dedicated @LACoPublicWorks employee who lost his life while on the job today in #Lancaster. My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. Victor’s nine years of service as a heavy power equipment operator reflect his commitment to public service and to the residents of @CountyofLA . This is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks our workforce faces every day. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident so we can fully understand what happened and take every possible step to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

Heartbroken to learn of the passing of @LASDHQ Deputy Levi Vargas. He served @CountyofLA w/ professionalism & dedication. My thoughts are with his wife, family, and the entire #LASD family during this difficult time. 💙

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department mourns the loss of Deputy Levi Vargas, who passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the age of 30. Deputy Vargas joined the Department in 2015 as a Custody Assistant and later graduated from Academy Class 413. He served in several assignments throughout his career, most recently at San Dimas Station. He was known among his colleagues and friends for his professionalism, commitment, and compassion to our communities. His loss is deeply felt across our Department, and he will be greatly missed. Deputy Vargas is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and extended family. We honor his service and legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

Altadena families deserve to stay close to their neighborhood and support systems. That's why I introduced a motion to explore more temporary housing options, including mobile homes and RVs, so residents can remain near their property while they remediate or rebuild without fearing parking tickets.
