Sri Lankan National Charged With Raping Woman In London Park. A Sri Lankan national of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of rape after a woman was attacked in a popular north-west London park on Friday. Anojan Ganesalingham, 40, was arrested in the Harrow area the day after the attack and charged on Monday. The assault took place in Byron Park, Wealdstone, on the evening of Friday 1 May. Police were called at 5:07pm the following day after reports of the rape. Forensic officers in protective suits were seen working inside a large sectioned off area at the rear of the park, opposite the Harrow Leisure Centre car park over the weekend. Detective Inspector Mitesh Mulji, of the Met’s North West Command Unit: "We are committed to tackling the scourge of sexual violence against women and girls. This was an isolated incident, but we are aware of the concern that it will cause in our local community. The woman who bravely reported this incident to us is being supported by specialist officers. We are increasing patrols in Byron Park and the surrounding area in response to this incident, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to our officers."
