There is re - emergence of coups in Africa and in mid July, Niger became the 6th country to experience a coup in West Africa sub region since 2020. What’s the cause of these coups? And why are people always jubilating?

OVERNIGHT: M23 and DRC government "committed" to an immediate ceasefire after talks mediated by Qatar. Doha appears to produce faster results in resolving the eastern DRC conflict than Nairobi or Luanda ever did

Take a look at Oliver Smithies' notebook from 1982 on gene targeting. Smithies shared the 2007 medicine prize for discovering how to use embryonic stem cells to create genetic changes in mice. Today, genetically-altered mice are an invaluable tool for research.

Regarding CDF’s conduct on X, Ugandans should focus on Articles 98, 99, 107 and 208 of the Constitution on the functions of the President, character of UPDF and grounds for the REMOVAL OF THE PRESIDENT 👇 CDF tweets are evidence that @KagutaMuseveni has failed in his duties as the CIC of UPDF and he has further failed to protect the Constitution. He should be impeached.

REFLECTIONS FROM ACCRA: Ghana has just concluded its 9th free and fair election since returning to multiparty democracy in 1992. The country has since had a series of successful political transitions, birthed a vibrant media, independent judiciary, and strong civil society. Ghana shares the same turbulent post independence history with Uganda, characterized by military coups. Nkrumah, just like Obote, was overthrown two times and military generals took power in Ghana successively until when Jerry John Rawlings briefly took power in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001. Rawlings led Ghana for the first 10 years under military rule and later ushered in a multiparty dispensation where he served for another 10 years. The 20 years of Rawlings’ rule were sufficient to stabilize Ghana and usher in a wave of a deep routed democratic culture beyond his tenure. It’s been a series of nice credible free and fair elections so far. Uganda on the other hand missed her Jerry Rawlings moment in @KagutaMuseveni. Had M7 respected term limits and retired in 2006, Uganda would have achieved its damascus moment in democracy. The people who conspired with M7 to lift term limits shall go down in history as the ones responsible for ruining Uganda’s second democratic liberation. As citizens, we owe this duty to our country and posterity to restore democratic order in our motherland and usher in the 3rd liberation as a rebirth of true democracy in the pearl of Africa. For God and My Country 🙏

"When I write, I use my body. I use all the sensory details of seeing, of listening, of smelling, of tasting, of experiencing tenderness and warmth and cold and pain, of noticing my heart racing and my body needing food and water, of walking and running, of feeling the wind and rain and snow on my skin, of holding hands. I try to infuse those vivid sensations that I feel as a mortal being with blood coursing through her body into my sentences. As if I am sending out an electric current. And when I sense this current being transmitted to the reader, I am astonished and moved. In these moments I experience again the thread of language that connects us, how my questions are relating with readers through that electric, living thing. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have connected with me through that thread, as well as to all those who may come to do so." - Han Kang, 2024 literature laureate, in her Nobel Prize lecture, delivered earlier today.
