Part of our new digital public safety UHF radio system being installed at one of four tower locations around @ButtsCountyGa this month. Testing is underway and it is light years ahead of the 50 year old tech it’s replacing. Ensuring the safety of our first responders is critical and this will go far towards ensuring they are clearly understood, easily able to be located quickly and only a click away from assistance.

We adopted a new cat into our family yesterday. Aside from how taken we are with him, I have to give a shout out to Klassy Kats, our local cat rescue. I’ve seen how hard they and @ButtsMutts work to foster and find homes for hundreds of cats and dogs each year. SPLOST 8 is bringing a much needed new animal shelter to provide better care and sheltering for them but homes are needed now. Giving an animal a safe and loving home is a very small sacrifice for what they give back. #ButtsCounty #KlassyKats #ButtsMutts

Butts County passes SPLOST 8 with a 75% favorable rating. This will build a new Animal Control Shelter, a new Fire Headquarters with EOC and 911 center, a recreational multipurpose building and a new Fire Station for Towaliga/High Falls section and much more. THANK YOU VOTERS!

Early Voting begins today for the County SPLOST Referendum, which would be a continuation of the 1% sales tax currently in place for Butts County. Early voting is at the County Administration Building in the Election Office, M-F from 8A-5P. Below is the SPLOST project list:

Like impact fees, SPLOST pennies generated at I-75 are mostly paid in from outside sources and reduces the amount of property taxes needed to fund state required services in Butts County. Supporting SPLOST 8 on the November 7th ballot supports lower property taxes. #KeepThePenny

Thanks to developmental impact fees for public works equipment, the County was able to purchase two new dump trucks without using a penny of property taxes. Impact fees are completely paid by new development and can be used for capital purchases with 10 year or longer lifespans.

One member of our new fleet of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup trucks getting prepped to go into service with the Public Works department. These and some smaller Ford Mavericks will replace older trucks in multiple departments that are ready to come off the road. #ButtsCounty

Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (#SPLOST) projects such as this one saves culturally and historically significant buildings from the past for future generations to enjoy. This was funded by sales tax, most of which was paid by visitors and freight haulers buying fuel.

Our opening dedication ceremony for the Historic 1898 Courthouse and its new life as our local Visitor Center, Development Office and Cultural Center will begin on May 7th, 2021 at 1:30 PM. We invite the interested public to attend this short ceremony and tour the interior.

A new #ESPLOST funded Performing Arts Center will be a huge boost to our schools, community and tourism offerings and will take our community to the next level. Around 55% of our sales tax comes from truck stop fuel sales at our two I-75 exits and tourism dollars.

Sometimes it’s more effective to see a before and after so that you can appreciate what the difference is. The second floor lobby of the courthouse was cut up to allow a "fake" office shown to the right of the stairs. This has now been removed and opens this grand space back up.
