Clear double standards at work in this debate. We read an abstract in physics or biology, we find it jargony & impenetrable and assume they know what they're doing. We read an abstract in the humanities, we feel the same and assume they have no idea what they're doing.

Indeed it's a common criticism that the 'hard' scientists overreach drastically when looking at the policy implications of their research and ignore economists. Also very different to use 'jargon' as simply niche descriptor versus potentially misleading usage.

@Keeper_86 @giulio_mattioli Physics does not comment on anything that ‘needs change in behaviour’ . You may assume that from a result but that’s a very different thing. We spend billions and billions on the input and the output of physics, not so much literature studies.

When physics describe an issue that needs change in behaviour, nobody listen. Maybe its not the method. Maybe ppl dont like to hear what they need to do?

@giulio_mattioli We should get one of the better social scientists to assess trust and respectability against the level of scientific method in each discipline. That’d be fun.

@ErwinObermaier wenn der Herr Dipl Ing. Obermaier nochmal GAAAANZ scharf nachdenkt, fällt ihm ws sein Denkfehler selber auf: ein + bei Kelvin macht bei absoluter Temp gar keinen Sinn, nur beim Anstieg, denn es gibt ja keine negativen Kelvin, 0 K ist der absolute Nullpunkt,

Antisemitism is a serious problem. But the way we are fighting it is becoming more of a problem than a solution. Here are some of the flaws I see with what currently passes for "fighting antisemitism": 1) Ignoring all other injustices to harp only on ours. 2) A willingness to overlook any prejudices people have as long as they speak out on antisemitism. 3) A willingness to tarnish entire groups of people in the name of fighting antisemitism. Usually Muslims or Palestinians. But also other groups seen as not supportive enough of our cause. 4) Using antisemitism as a political tool to get one candidate elected rather than another. 5) Trying to paint criticism of Israeli government policy as antisemitism. 6) Justifying anything Israel does, no matter how questionable. What we don't see is that focusing only on ourselves and promoting hatred of other groups does not help fight antisemitism in any way. It creates enemies and encourages division and ethnocentrism. Why shouldn't other groups do the same if we only focus on ourselves? The fight against antisemitism is best served by fighting all hatred and racism and by creating bridges instead of divides. Show up for others, and they will also show up for us. A more compassionate and just world will be better for everyone, including Jews.
