Five questions still lingering for me this NHL offseason: 1. Where do contracts land with some of these top pending RFA’s (Robertson, Bedard, Fantilli, Gauthier, Edvinsson, Nikishin). The market has changed significantly in the last week. Do these players go for shorter-term and re-enter the market in a couple years or do they prefer long-term stability? 2. Speaking of RFA’s, does what happened with offer sheets drive urgency for teams to lock up their extension-eligible RFA’s as seen with Ivan Demidov? Macklin Celebrini, Kirill Marchenko, Will Smith, Matvei Michkov, Jimmy Snuggerud, Ryan Leonard are some top players who fit this criteria. 3. How does the Dylan Larkin situation resolve itself? Does Yzerman find a package suitable to move his 1C? Or does he play hard ball and try to move forward with Larkin as a Red Wing this season? 4. What does Vancouver do with their veterans (EP40, Boeser, DeBrusk, Demko)? Keep them to help their younger players or full fire sale to kickstart the rebuild? 5. What surprises still come our way before the season starts? Any more offer sheets? Blockbuster trades? Front office re-shuffling? We have over 2 months until the start of the NHL season, lots can happen between now and then.

Does a Zach Werenski for Thomas Harley swap still have life? @JeffMarek believes this isn’t the last we’ve heard of that deal and it could get revisited later in the summer by the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets.

@timoseppa He can’t get traded for a full calendar year so he wouldn’t be able to be a trade piece for Utah. If he doesn’t extend in Utah he will be walked to UFA on July 1.

I'm not surprised Utah matched on Hayton, as trading for Trocheck signalled they wanted to add to their centers. I've always been underwhelmed by the player but the price tag is reasonable. Could be a trade piece later. Worst case, honestly, he gets hot and they think they should re-sign him long term.

Brady Tkachuk has “heard rumblings” that Florida will be going to Ottawa early in the season via @PardonMyTake No brainer to have this for one of the national games in the first week of the season. Copy the NFL and put elite games in primetime early.

@PhilKocher It’s pretty simple. The Devils didn’t have the draft compensation required to submit an offer sheet for Hayton except for the highest tier (11.9M and above) and the tier they offered him.

No idea why the Devils made such a weak AAV offer here. This feels like an easy match. If you're gonna do this, it needs to be a genuine poison pill. One year, $8 million, not $4 million and change.
