So a Nigerian startup lost $12 million because their backend was deployed on “localhost”. Her name is Amaka, a senior frontend engineer. One faithful afternoon, she was inspecting elements on the company’s landing page when she noticed the “Buy Now” button was not aligned properly. As she was fixing padding, she mistakenly right-clicked and clicked “View Backend”. That was when she saw it the entire production database just sitting there in JSON. She tried to close it, but it had already seen her. Within seconds, hackers from 3 different continents entered the system through the CSS file. Money started transferring itself. Logs started deleting themselves. Even the API began to panic. But Amaka is experienced. She quickly opened Stack Overflow, copied a solution from 2013, pasted it into the console, and pressed Enter. Nothing happened. So she did the next best thing, she refreshed the page. Boom. Everything stopped. Hackers got logged out.
Database reset itself.
Even the money returned with interest. Her boss couldn’t believe it. They praised her bravery, her quick thinking, and her ability to center a div under pressure. That same week, her salary was increased from 200k to 205k (performance-based). This is a true story. Be like Amaka.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am glad to announce another major milestone has been attained in my investment journey. My US portfolio has crossed the 7 figures mark (in naira). I began my journey in November when I turned legal and I thank God for the progress. The gains has been driven mostly by capital additions with limited upside as the US market hasn't been palatable these past few months, regardless I kept topping my positions. It has also made me discover my risk profile as I felt that urge to sell when I was just holding $AMZN, $TSLA and $GOOGL. I have added $VOO and Gold and tend to keep it this way, topping those 5 assets for a long while with the index ETF taking up 70%, individual stocks taking 15% and gold taking 15%. I would be back when it hits 8 figures and above. The aim eventually is for the portfolios (US and NGN) to reach the stage where the returns can fund my lifestyle. It is still day 1. I thank God for exposure to begin early. I thank him for blessing my ventures and for his grace.. And oh @investbamboo has been amazing in managing both portfolios. I don't think I would've been in this without fintechs like them. I don't like stress 😂.

Congratulations to me! I have hit a milestone in my investment journey. I have invested over 1million naira across the US and Nigerian markets at just 18. I have been highly reluctant to share this. But each time I see gamblers share their wins, I'm more convinced I should.

If I may ask, can we have an all-youths special edition of drinks and mics, just the way there was one for the ladies? It would be a pleasure for young fans of the show to have our session and discuss economic matters. I was one of those who suggested that at MoneyFair, as the show has indeed won a lot of us over. @Nairametrics @ugodre

Haha, hold up 😂 You literally cloned @pewbeam_ai feature-for-feature (real-time audio → verse detection → on-screen display, local AI, no cloud) and dropped the same idea as open-source in one week? That’s not “alternative” that’s a straight carbon copy. X is not real.
FO@FOjebiyi

Hi guys, I built an open-source alternative to @pewbeam_ai in one week. github.com/openbezal/rhema Started coding during a Sunday church service. By the following Sunday, we were using it live during our church service. Wild. Here's what Rhema does: it listens to your pastor's sermon in real-time, detects Bible verse references as they're mentioned, and displays them on screen instantly. No manual clicking, no dedicated slide operator needed. The tech stack: - Tauri 2.0 with a Rust backend handling all the heavy lifting: audio capture, transcription pipeline, verse detection logic, and system tray integration - Local AI embeddings using Qwen3-0.6B so everything runs on-device with zero cloud dependency. Your sermons never leave your machine - Real-time audio transcription paired with semantic search against a full Bible verse database The Rust backend was a deliberate choice. We needed low latency audio processing and efficient memory usage for running an embedding model locally, and Rust delivers on both. Is it perfect? Probably not. But the core functionality works and we're already using it in a real church environment This is where you come in. Rhema is fully open source and we need contributors to help take it to the next level. Whether it's improving the verse detection accuracy, adding multi-language support, building a better overlay UI, adding support for more Bible translations, or optimizing the transcription pipeline, there's real work to be done and real impact to be made. If you're a Rust developer, a frontend engineer, an ML enthusiast, or just someone who loves building tools for the church, come build with us. Star the repo. Fork it. Open a PR. Let's make this the go-to open-source solution for live Bible verse display in churches worldwide. github.com/openbezal/rhema

It used to feel weird being a teenager in Nigeria who's genuinely enthusiastic about the capital markets and macroeconomics. Most times, I’m the outlier. But today at the @Nairametrics Moneywise event, that "weirdness" vanished. For the first time, I wasn’t the odd one out—I was surrounded by my people. Today, I had the opportunity to see and talk with the ghosts behind the machine at the Nairametrics Moneywise event. It was an elating event in which representatives of Nigerian banks, Fintechs, regulators, and government agencies discussed wealth, savings, investments, and endowments. All the sessions were refreshing: various stakeholders reassured attendees in the capital market, newbies were given direction, and investors voiced their concerns to regulators. However, the sessions I especially liked were: 1. Creating generational wealth. It's observed that most wealthy Africans fail in this regard due to inadequate structures. Hence, through trust funds and wills under legal oversight, the individuals shared key insights into the above. 2. Micro pensions: traditionally, pensions have been reserved for 9-5s, those in the formal sector. However, nearly 80% of workers in Nigeria are in the informal sector. Hence, micro pensions aim to include these. It was lovely seeing the amazing work fintechs like @AwabahNigeria are undertaking to bring the pension industry to the common market seller! I also networked with some amazing individuals, including @he_is_PC, an e-commerce guru, Olamilekan, and Mr. Tope, an investment banking professional. A stellar highlight was talking with the CEO of Awabah, Mr. Tunji, and Nairametrics CEO/Founder, @ugodre wherein I commended the great work the team is doing on its drinks and Mics podcast. I told them how I became a follower from 17 and used that information along with many others to curate my parents' portfolio. After giving stellar returns in a short while, my scepticism grew. However, the podcast expanded my knowledge of our capital markets and economy, giving me further conviction to build mine to 7 figures once I became legal. I highlighted that GenZs have greatly benefited, not just boomers/Gen X, and the team has done an excellent job. And oh, lest I forget, I got lucky for the first time in my life. I won a raffle draw and carted away with a microwave oven!! Thank you @Nairametrics. Till next year

@unclebigbay143 @ossynoya Call it a mistake, but you do know that based on UAE's interest in stability they can't align with Iran. One would have said, they sit dusk, but that will be forgetting they don't wield the power to defend themselves. They needed an ally and US was and is still the best option.

It does make sense why Iran is attacking Dubai more than anywhere else right now. It’s all about “war stomach”. Israel is built for war and they can’t hit American soil directly. So what do you do? You attack American’s biggest partner in the Middle East and destroy their treasured infrastructure. If Dubai caves and calls trump to stop, Ermm. Think about the billions they’ve “promised” to invest in US in the next 5 years, that’s leverage to them too. So how much stomach does Dubai have to see their infrastructure be destroyed ? Do they hold on tight and wait for a proper response or chicken out now.

I borrowed ₦250,000 from our lastborn two weeks ago. A week later, I sent her ₦350,000 unannounced. Days later she’s reminding for the ₦250,000 loan. Which financial asset gives you ₦100,000 profit on a ₦250,000 position in less than a week? That’s a 40% return. Women and money ehn .
