Today, we remember a legend. On this day in history, Harambe would have celebrated another birthday. An icon that became part of internet history, American culture, and an entire generation’s timeline. Tomorrow marks 10 years since we lost him. Ten years since the moment the world stopped scrolling and collectively mourned something bigger than a meme. He became a symbol of loyalty, strength, chaos, unity, and the strange beauty of the internet bringing millions of people together for one cause: never forgetting Harambe. Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news. And somehow, a decade later, his legacy still lives on. Gone, but never forgotten. Rest easy to a true patriot. 🕊️🇺🇸 May 27, 1999 — May 28, 2016 Forever in our hearts.

Gotta say, the great European air conditioner debate every 2 years on this site is my favourite time to be alive.

Posters torn down for a missing 14 yr old Jewish girl in North York in one of the most Jewish neighborhoods in Canada & reportedly happened across the city of Toronto. Reminiscent of the disrespect of the Hostage Posters. The same exact Jew hate. Be ashamed, 🇨🇦 Canada

This ruling exemplifies the logical consequences of the Supreme Court's jurisprudence, particularly on s. 7 and s. 15 of the Charter. The impediment of public transportation policy here is not so much the work of one errant judge, as it is the accretion of legal precedents. 1/

BIG news out of Kitchener-Waterloo: the Ontario Superior Court has ruled that homelessness is an analogous ground for discrimination under s.15 of the Charter. This is a BIG step toward recognizing homeless people as an equity-seeking group under the law. Governments take note!

@jsrioux @zdeborova @eiszett While doing research for the MPP program, I read more than a few academic papers that mischaracterized (or completely misunderstood the central theses of) the articles they were citing. It was pretty discouraging.

Occasional errors and oversights are part of science. If we lost our driver’s license for a year every time we exceeded the speed limit by 10 km/h, daily life would become unworkable. Many countries instead use point systems, where trust can be rebuilt through good behavior.

@geoffc13 @gcosteloe @Prominent_Bryan That's RBC. They won't let me do a recurring e-transfer in the amount of my mortgage payment. I can do it manually each month, but they won't allow me to set up the same e-transfer automatically recurring on a monthly basis. So dumb.

I will never understand why Canadians insist e-transfer is better It isn't. It's always more annoying to use than the US system (or what they have in the rest of the world) I'm not saying interac e-transfer is terrible or unusable but it is objectively less convenient than Venmo, especially if you don't already have this person in your contacts It's weird how defensive Canadians are on this. Weird elbows up stuff. But it's always from people who have never experienced the system in the rest of the world

@TateHackert Etransfer is horrible compared to the US apps

@BlairKing_ca How much more value per barrel do you think additional west coast capacity will create? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was my understanding that TMX already captured most of the across-the-board benefits of a narrowed differential. albertacentral.com/intelligence-c….

@BenWoodfinden There are a million and one other reasons to loathe FIFA, but this isn't one of them imo.

@BenWoodfinden If they do sell out prior to kickoff, can you really blame FIFA for charging what buyers were willing/able to pay? As for me, I'll be in the local soccer pub, and for good reason!

You really can't loathe FIFA enough. Canada's opening world cup game is a once in a lifetime experience, tickets won't be cheap of course, but FIFA doesn't give a shit about the game or love of it, and just wants to fleece fans. They'd rather have empty seats than fans in seats.
Tom Harrington@cbctom

A month before Canada opens the World Cup, I got an email from MLSE as a TFC season ticket holder. I could buy a ticket to the opener vs Bosnia at BMO Field - the price range is $1150 to $2955. The most significant match in Canadian soccer history is not sold out. Wonder why.

@finseraste We brand our movements toward American political structures as uniquely Canadian. That's partially why they hold so much staying power in the zeitgeist.
