This is spot on.
People & organizations respond to incentives. Bad teams are incentivized to tank to acquire the best players. Until the incentives change, tanking will NOT stop. The Jazz and other teams are doing EXACTLY what they should be doing based on current incentives.

Tanking fines is like paying the luxury tax in the prior CBA. If it gives you a competitive advantage, or in this case, a chance to draft (and keep) an impact player, billionaire owners will pay the fine. Now if we start taking away roster resources, that’s a different story.

@Jowanza I don’t love intentional tanking, but it’s the reality of the current NBA incentive structure. I’m glad the Jazz are doing what they need to protect their pick in a loaded draft. It’s the right strategic move if they want to be positioned to compete at a high level next year.

I love that the Jazz are like, “You’re gonna complain that we actually play our guys and then pull them in the 4th quarter?! Ok, we’ll just do it how everyone else does then. Now the fans can enjoy our G-leaguers for the entire game.”

If this is true, the Jazz must be really serious about keeping him, because it's hard to imagine they'd turn down two unprotecteds and then decline to match an offer sheet months later.

Sources: Indiana Pacers made a run at Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler and offered a package highlighted by two unprotected first-round picks. It was declined and Pacers pivoted to Zubac. Kessler will be in demand as a restricted free agent this summer.

That’s quite an offer for Walker Kessler.

@dave_christison Diet discipline has a bigger influence on weight loss, but that doesn't mean running is a waste of time. As you know, running is amazing for aerobic fitness and also has huge mental health benefits. I think running is one of the most beneficial things a person can do!
