The @Mets have become a bad joke. They keep shuffling the deck, thinking they're going to get a better result. This is their 2nd full "Spring Training" season with continual "tryouts" that's falling flat on its face. At this point, it seems they'll be lucky to win 70 games... VERY lucky.

What the hell is going on here? The NY/NJ World Cup Host Committee took $50 million from New Jersey taxpayers, bought 1,000 tickets at full price, then turned around and sold them for $50 to New Yorkers. New Jersey families paid the bill, New Yorkers got the bargain. And the person chairing this committee is New Jersey’s former First Lady. At some point, this stops being incompetence and starts looking like contempt for New Jersey taxpayers.

@GuntherEagleman Very sad to see such a vibrant young man cut down. It makes me wonder if he's another jab victim.

William Contreras challenged a pitch that was called a ball and on the TV feed, it showed the call should be overturned to a strike. The home plate umpire turned his microphone on and said it was still a ball and the Brewers lost the challenge. Simply put, that can’t happen.

@loigwine @hunterbonair So, what prevents players and managers from fixing games? I’m confident that’s been going on forever and will continue into perpetuity.

@KennethJJones @hunterbonair I believe the gambling aspect was partly reason for challenges. Just need one crooked ump to change an important, costly stat. Personally I miss the coach/umpire battles.

@Objectivity1 @hunterbonair One bad call by an ump doesn't destroy anyone's career. Baseball and its players survived and grew for nearly 150 years of enduring bad calls which was understood and respected by its fans. It's not and never was intended to be a game of perfection and precision.

@nypostsports One of the intangibles that don’t show up on a stat sheet, is that Alonso brought his personality and supportive role of other players. As for Vientos… there’s nothing much to say other than I’m sure he’s trying his best.

@SleeperMets @nypostsports Sterns must have some pretty incriminating information about Cohen to have been able to last so long after causing so much destruction.

MLB's replay system needs improvement. The technology is there to get it right, so failures like this are inexcusable. This was, without doubt, safe. You can clearly see the hand on the base prior to the tag. Absolutely disgraceful decision.

Nothing. The game was constructed and played for ~100 years without any techno interference, which is what made it as popular as it became. Some of the most memorable events in the game happened during that time. The "slow pace" of the game revolved around strategic interactions between pitchers, batters, and managers. The game was never intended to meet a tv time slot; it was meant to be a test of physical skills and intellectual strategy, the latter having been sacrificed to generate more interest of people who are too impatient and, perhaps, too intellectually shallow to understand strategy. All that said, complaining will unlikely have any impact on the continued decline of a game that once was...

@KennethJJones @DanClarkSports Really an interesting question. I agree re human error. Note that the replay also involves human judgment & therefore possible error. But with slo mo replay sports are faced with instances where all can see the call was just plain wrong. What to do?
