In two months, we’re moving to Columbus, Ohio. We just bought our first house there. Texas heat and year-round allergies pushed us to move north. After a long process of filtering options and traveling across different states, we decided to choose Ohio. I see a lot of business opportunities there in general, and strong potential to expand my appliance repair business specifically. We plan to launch appliance repair services in 3 metro areas this year. As a bonus, it’s new construction, so I’ll get exposure to many different home service industries from the customer side, and I’m excited about that. It’s my 4th year in the U.S., and my 3rd year running a business that made this possible. A country of opportunities, for sure.

@realEstateTrent Average dress shirt is only manufactured to last 34 wears. If it’s “wrinkle free” the material is even more susceptible to damage. Many dress shirts are ready to be “ruined” bc people thing they last forever and they don’t.

A dry cleaner ruined one of my shirts recently, and I decided not to do anything about it. Why? They would have pushed back and insisted they didn’t do it. I would have explained why they were wrong, and they would have denied it again. I would have told them I’d never come back unless they reimbursed me, and the back and forth would have continued. Frankly, dealing with that kind of conflict over a shirt that costs a couple hundred dollars isn’t worth my time or energy at this point in life. Yes, people should be held accountable, and there should be consequences for actions, and this stuff should be viewed on a case-by-case. But in this case, it was a no brainer. All downside. I’m just not going to go back. Sometimes you have to weigh the upside, pick your battles, and choose being smart over being right.

Visionary / Integrator dynamic in EOS is 90% Bullsh*t If you’re running the business, you’ve got to do both. I bet the comments confirm this. You had a successful visionary/ integrator split?

A roofing company came to us doing $700K/year Almost all referrals. Zero Google presence. Their previous agency had them paying $800/month with no reports and no communication. 77% of their backlinks had zero authority. They had 0 LOCATION PAGES Their agency showed them a ranking map that was all green. We pulled it up with keywords people actually search average ranking was 10.75 out of 20. Here's what we did: -Built individual pages for every city and service -Replaced junk backlinks with 5 quality ones per month -Optimized their GBP with real photos -Fixed their meta titles and H1 tags -Put in a review automation system Now they rank across a majority of their service area Google HELPs referrals SCALE Comment "RANK" and i will give you a free SEO AUDIT!

@CTW_SMB @SMB_Attorney @realEstateTrent Even though she’s young, snap an occasional photo of the different activities. Then when she’s older, photos will help her memory. My kids love looking at photos on my phone, and I’m convinced it helps them remember those events, memories with deceased loved ones, etc.

Did this kick in for you at a certain age of kids? For sure I intend to operate that way god willing when they get older, but like for our stage of kid (she's 1 right now), before they start to "remember" were you still do as much as possible These days I'm like hey grinding a bit more now, missing a bed time here and there, can really pay off and give me more flex once she's 4, 5 etc

This morning was an absolute punch in the gut. My 5-year-old son is my best friend. I do everything I can to be home by 6pm every day so that I can spend an hour with him before he goes to bed. We play any and all sports together every weekend. We horseplay and crack each other up on a daily basis. We travel to sporting events in different cities across the country multiple times a year. We’re basically the same person, and I take pride in how close we are and how much time we spend together. I took him to school this morning like I do on many days, while I’m vaguely aware that the school invites parents to join the class for a half hour periodically - but I’m always in a rush to get the work day going after I drop him off, and I know my wife attends here and there. This morning on the ride to school, he looked at me and said softly, “I know your work is really important so you don’t need to stay for the parents coffee today.” Yikes. The parent mornings are a much bigger deal than I realized, and I learned in that moment he was bothered I’d never attended. What an unbelievable oversight on my part. You try to balance everything and keep up with so many demands from all directions. You think you’re a really good parent and take pride in it - and sometimes you miss the small things that make such a huge difference. At one point a teacher asked the kids what they were thankful for. He raised his hand: “I’m thankful that my dad is here.” No seven words have ever stung this much, and I’m going to make changes.

@connorpera What if EE’s are separated by floors or multiple facilities? I feel like Slack/Teams would provide a more efficient solution for quick communications.

@heitner @PeteThamel Regardless of the legal ramifications, there is a right way and wrong way to do things in life. Mensah will be remembered…for all the wrong reasons. Bailed at the 11th hour on teammates (who stayed themselves) with the expectation of playing with him. Not a good look.

Key pieces from Duke's lawsuit against Darian Mensah: It requests a TRO from him entering the portal and a preliminary injunction preventing him from entering the portal, enrolling at another school and playing football at another school and licensing his NIL to another school.

Something I’ve had to accept: I will never stop obsessing over the big picture. My quality of life, my health, my business, my clients, my family, my home, my finances. 24/7. I’m at midlife so its safe to say I won’t ever change. It’s not linear. It comes in waves where I’m scaling 7 or 8 mountains at once. I don’t watch TV. It’s been decades since I’ve seen a movie. I barely keep up with my passions like sports anymore. If Im being honest, I’m not really all that fun. I struggle to keep friends. It’s messy. It’s chaotic. It burns people around me out that aren’t wired the same way. Sometimes it sucks for me too. It’s been destructive at times. But if Im being fair, I’ve actually built an insane life because of it. Not perfect, but perfect for me… right now. My “connect the dots” journey would make a great movie. I live exactly where I want to live. I have an incredible business, with incredible partners that’s right on the verge of blowing up. I have a great family. I’m with the only person on earth I want to be with. I’ve done all this with zero help from scratch. I went from 2.5 high school GPA to community college to one of the top law schools in the country, and found my way into one of the top law firms in the world. So it is what it is. Lots of handwork and luck. And I know that can change in a moment, and it’s taken extremely painful life altering moves to get here. The last few years I’ve seen (hopefully) a lifetimes worth of personal crap: unexpected divorce, health scares, business disruptions, financial issues.. you name it. And I’m proud that I’ve made it through. In life, I’ve always been insanely loyal to the people who’ve been loyal to me and always will be. Im proud of that and despite everything I have a clean conscience looking back on the first half of life. I’m leaning into it now and looking for like minded people to surround myself with in the second half of life. If you’ve got my back, I’ve got yours 1000%. 2026 is going to be an insane year for us. Bookmark this post because the list of things we’re about to accomplish in the next 12 months is going to be legendary. You’d have to kill me to stop my momentum now. Let’s fucking go.

Working on my year-end letter to the firm, but one stat is top of mind that tells me no matter what I accomplished this year in business or life, this year was a success: > 0 school events missed Every pickup, drop-off, field trip, and class event that I was allowed to attend, I attended. When I was a kid, there was no doubt my dad wasn’t going to be there. I’ve flipped that. I’m proud of that and wont apologize to anyone for it.

One of my favorite things about @mhp_guy is his love of business, his love of people, and cheering them on. This is a great episode with @hey_mindi on her side hustle journey. Mindi, hats off to you as a mom of four and also a successful business. It’s so inspiring. Once you build your empire and you want to sell, please give me a call. Until then, I’ll cheer you on and happy to answer any questions! And as I have told @ShannonJean before, he is really changing lives and making the world a better place. Check out his episodes on both @mhp_guy and @CoFoundersNik podcasts.
Mindi@hey_mindi

This is a real “pinch me” moment. My interview on The Koerner Office with @mhp_guy dropped today. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to tell Chris my entrepreneurship story on such a huge platform. Cheers to @ShannonJean showing me what’s possible in the reselling world and the incredible Mastermind community who has shown up for me over and over again as I grow on @Whatnot Let’s go! 🙏 open.spotify.com/episode/23mFew…

@jjtejkl @traestephens I’m not sure this partnership moves the needle on home sales, but I’ll dispute he’s unknown in Cincinnati. Ted’s sold more @CincyHat hats than anyone in the history of the city. He might not be @JoeyB, but he’s very known in the community.

This has got to be the worst sports marketing athlete endorsement of all time. A model home floorplan endorsed by an...offensive lineman? Who is making the decision to buy this house because Ted Karras slapped his name on it? Ted isn't even famous in Cincinnati. Haha.

I buy HVAC companies the same way people buy houses: Find a good one, get a loan, and make payments from the income it produces. Except HVAC companies pay better than rental properties. And I don’t have to deal with tenants calling me at midnight. Instead, I have to deal with: Customer calls/texts complaints starting at 6am and ending around 11pm GC project manager threatens to call the cops on you Employee crashes van into a gas pump Van breaks down on the interstate first thing in the morning and is out of commission for 4 days Installers install the wrong equipment at the right house Installers install the right equipment at the wrong house Technician no call, no show on a random day where he’s scheduled with 5 calls 3 non-revenue call backs for the same $250 service call Missing payroll by a day because of a new bank holiday in the middle of the week Employee quits via text message after 4 days on the job Suppliers not having one critical part in stock even though their website states 15 available

A reality that hurts many sellers. Only thing worse is when the “valuations” are also performed by the seller’s CPA (who 99.9% of the time has no knowledge of the M&A market.) Sellers overlook the fact that their CPA doesn’t want them to sell because it means losing a client.
Sam Rosati@Sam_Rosati

Hot take: business valuations are terrible for M&A. They anchor a seller's price expectations to a number that's prepared by a party without any skin in the game.
