On 5th March 2026, the Head of Mission held a meeting with Mr. Jeremy Grand, Chargé d’Affaires of France, to discuss matters of mutual interest, including preparations for the upcoming Africa–France Summit scheduled to take place in Nairobi in May 2026.

The Minister warmly welcomed the Ambassador and reiterated the cordial and longstanding relations between Burundi and Kenya. Amb. Wambuma congratulated Burundi on its accession to the Chairmanship of the African Union and reaffirmed Kenya’s full support during its tenure.

This evening, Amb.-Designate Henry Wambuma presented Certified Copies of his Letters of Credence to H.E. Edouard Bizimana, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration & Development Cooperation of Burundi.

President Ndayishimiye and Hon. Fatuma reaffirmed the strong bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and their peoples. They also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations.

On 9 February 2026, His Excellency Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, received a message of goodwill from His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, delivered through his Special Envoy, Hon. Fatuma Zainab Mohammed.

The envoys shared heartfelt messages celebrating the Rt. Hon. Odinga’s enduring legacy as a distinguished statesman, democracy champion, and pan-African icon whose vision and courage inspired generations across the continent.

Ambassadors and representatives from Uganda (Dean of the Diplomatic Group), Russia, United States of America, South Africa, Algeria, Germany, Nigeria, and Tanzania joined in paying their respects.

As Kenya continues to mourn the passing of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, C.G.H., the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Bujumbura received members of the Diplomatic Corps who visited to sign the Condolence Book in his honour.

Signed a condolence book in honour of the Right Hon Raila Odinga, State House Nairobi. The condolence book will be signed by members of the Executive. This is one of the many activities organised to reflect on and celebrate the life and times of Hon Odinga.
