Digging into "Making Meaning of Operations" with a new group!
Excited for a week of learning.
Thanks @marriamath for the opportunity! ❤️❤️❤️

@jennalaib @MrsMathKaija I would love to hear more about how this system of organizing has evolved! I have an office full of dollar store treasures that desperately need to be organized...
English

@MrsMathKaija This is all a work in progress. Maybe we will decide on a different organizational system later. Who knows!

As I walked down the 1st/2nd grade hallway with a new bin of counting collections, I heard “ooohs” echo in my wake. “Counting collections!” “I love those!” “I remember doing that!” 😍 Music to my ears, little friends. #countingcollections

English

@kassiaowedekind Is there anything dark and twisty about that or does the mathy-ness override all of that? I think the latter, for sure!
English

When you want to start the year with some #countingcollections but kiddos can’t share, you hit the dollar store hard! Just had a G2 S come by and say she wants to go back to G1 so she can count these!

English

@kassiaowedekind Only 12 countable items per $1.00 felt like a splurge but worth every penny in my opinion! I also see great potential for an array chat if I can stop them from rolling.
English

@KeplerTrish That’s a great collection of collections! I’d love to see how it all looks organized. :)
English

@KeplerTrish @stace208 @MrsShovely I think we need to go to the dollar store for our coaches meeting next week...
English

@adinam225 Yes! We're going to do some staging and photo shooting to capture some #numbertalk images before we start re-packaging. Lots of potential with the packs that have quantities - 40, 32... Some good talks with the items that were $1.25 and $1.50 per pack too! Will share!
English

@KeplerTrish I see some potential for 4th and 5th grade counting collections from this picture! Would it be ok if I used it with my students?
English

@lynseymathed I can't wait to see what the kiddos' hands look like after counting those! It will be like they've been kissed by magical math fairy dust!

@talita624 I usually use it so that students can write on it, as well. So I share the file link in the chat box so that all can engage. Then I don’t really even need to share my screen.
English

@KeplerTrish So when you use it as a digital whiteboard, how do you share it? Do you share your screen?
English

@talita624 Let me know what amazing things you do with it! I've primarily used it as a digital whiteboard, but I also recently used it to collect reflections from a group (1 slide per participant) and as a space to show thinking for a 3-act in breakout groups.
English

@KeplerTrish Thanks, I found it in my suite. Have started playing around with it!
English

@talita624 I’ll bet you’re seeing the pricing for the fancy display. The app I’ve been using is part of my suite of Google apps. It’s the drafting space for the display board.
English

@KeplerTrish I looked into jamboard but looked like a hefty price. Is it part of Google if I use the other apps (as part of my district email)?

Now, this is a fruit snack that I could actually embrace! I'm all in. You would even be my kids' new best friend because I might suddenly be convinced that fruit snacks could be eaten at any time, not just for dessert!

Hey @GeneralMills! Can we collaborate on some SHAPES fruit snacks? Perhaps Pattern Block? My colleagues at @Public_Math and I are ready to brainstorm! Call us maybe? Following in case you wanna DM!

Critical reading as we look ahead to an uncertain fall that will likely challenge us to refine our remote learning practices so that we may better engage all students and keep rich discourse alive and well.

Conversations with students over video have been challenging, but you may have found it wasn't all bad. @TeacherThomp can relate and she shared her reflections in this recent blog, along with examples on how she and her colleagues made the most of it. hubs.ly/H0rp1-b0
