Clemson is $1.5B in debt. Syracuse is closing or pausing 93 programs, UNC-Chapel Hill plans to cut spending by $89M over 3 years. Duke recently let 600 employees go in a $350M budget cut. Indiana public colleges announced a plan to eliminate or merge 580 programs statewide.

@drantbradley I have seen a lot of grandstanding about per pupil spending going up in various areas. I know that some funding Is based on enrollment but not all, stands to reason the denominator simply went down.

🧵 My Latest: America is quietly shutting down elementary schools all over the country. California, Texas, Georgia, New Jersey, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and so on. Not one school here or there. Entire waves of closures. And almost nobody wants to say the real reason why.

You can't hate College Board enough. They were distressed at the racial distribution of scores on the SAT and other tests, so they dumbed them down catastrophically to make them more "equitable."

You often see these kind of comments when people are exposed to these data. I always think, though, if a woman today were banned from opening a bank account or owning a home, would she really become more eager to marry a man?

At first glance, this seems like a division between the working class and the managerial class, but it's not quite that simple. There are engineers and surgeons on the Republican side. What we're really witnessing here is a split between those who work (miners, engineers, surgeons) and those who mostly pretend to work (yoga instructors, film industry workers, social scientists).
