@Charles77878130 @Zhozhoma @CoxHerb Do you think all children should be entitled to a basic education? If no, then you're an asshole. If yes, then you agree we have an obligation as a society to fund it. It doesn't matter if you utilize that education, you don't get the money back.

@Zhozhoma @CoxHerb As long as they get the same basic minimum back. Instead the way it works now is people get 2x screwed for being good parents +sending their child to the best place possible for an education. I spend 50% of my salary on my house and daughters education. i work two jobs to do it

That equals 0.0427% of all Texas school students not counting homeschoolers. That level of demand just shows rich kids already in private schools want that “free” Texas tax dollar to pay for their private school tuition. Socialism and grift at its finest. Calm down Shaka.
Shaka Mitchell@shakamitchell

🎉 Hearing that more than 250,000 students applied for about 100,000 available spots in Texas. 🎉 That level of demand tells a clear story: Texas families want more educational options. @nathancunneen @schoolchoicenow

What your middle school biology class didn't teach you - sex and gender identity are very simple for the vast majority of people. But not everyone. In NO way do I support allowing athletes with clear male hormone/development advantages to compete against traditional females. But please understand that these disorders are real and very confusing for the individuals that truly have them.

@UpstandingMembr @aakashgupta Well yeah, because that's an AI rendering of the first picture with trees added. Just look at the weird fucking office building growing out of the first house on the left.

@aakashgupta Gibberish. 1. The developer is not saving $5,000 per house by doing something that reduces its initial sale price by $28,000 to $76,000. 2. These are not native trees that the original developers left in place:

Let me explain exactly why every new subdivision in America looks like the top photo, because the math is wild. A mature tree increases a home's value by 7 to 19 percent. On a $400,000 house, that's $28,000 to $76,000. A single shade tree produces the cooling equivalent of ten room-size air conditioners running 20 hours a day. One tree on the west side of a house cuts energy bills by 12 percent within 15 years. The bottom photo is worth more, costs less to live in, and sells faster. This has been documented by the University of Washington, Clemson, Michigan State, and the USDA. The data is not in dispute. Removing those trees saves the builder roughly $5,000 per lot. Concrete trucks need twice the dripline radius of every standing tree. Utility trenches need flat ground. A bulldozer flattens 200 lots in an afternoon. Preserving trees adds weeks and thousands per home. So the developer pockets $5,000 in savings and the buyer eats $50,000 in lost value for the next two decades. The person making the decision and the person paying for it have never been in the same room. The Woodlands, Texas is the proof of what happens when they are. George Mitchell bought 28,000 acres of Houston timberland in 1974 and preserved 28% as permanent green space. He forced McDonald's to build behind the tree canopy. That McDonald's became one of the highest-volume locations in Texas. The first office building, designed to reflect the surrounding forest so you couldn't see it from the street, leased completely. The Woodlands median home price today: $615,000. Katy, a comparable Houston suburb that clear-cut: $375,000. Named #1 community to live in America two years running. Fifty years of data. The trees are worth more than removing them saves. Developers clear-cut anyway because they sell the house once and leave. You live in it for 30 years.

@teostealth @grossdm Demand in summer months is >2x what it is in winter months. It's the air-conditioning that causes electricity to spike. The two-three weeks of actual cold temperatures we get in winter don't come close.

Pretty astonishing. In Texas, between 10:00 am and 4:00 p.m., 80-90% of electricity comes from carbon free sources. And storage is already a significant contributor in the early morning and evening

@garooya Ha, love it! I watched game 2 at my new girlfriend's apt while she was in the other room incredibly sick. I kept going in to check on her and she'd immediately send me back out because she knew how important the game was to me. Naturally, she's the wife from the airport story😀

@garooya My plane got delayed and so I watched the 4Q of this game at the super quiet Delta sky lounge at Logan. That shot went in and I screamed out loud and then replayed it 37x for my wife and daughter to see what had happened. Best flight delay ever.

Watched this again last night. It's about a man who hires his wife's lover to murder her so they can split her life insurance payout. Needless to say, things don't go as planned. It's a good example of a kind of movie that was common in the 90s. It's not a classic but it's the kind of movie you'd pay $10 to go see in the cinema or rent out at Blockbuster and be satisfied that you got your money's worth. The plot is well written, the cast give sound performances and it's only 90 minutes long. Perfect for a Friday night. I bring it up because this is the kind of movie Netflix should be making for their catalogue but instead we get woke BS.

@robneyer I'm curious which one. I really detested the Martian because of the chronically-online style writing (the "pirate ninja" stuff was so painful), but I gave Hail Mary a chance and absolutely loved it. It's not perfect, but it's a fun, funny and pretty engaging hard sci-fi novel.

@mbpOn3 @ATMorr55 @itsrosesm Nobody here is blinded by hate. The Iranian regime is terrible but we seem to have no coherent plan for fixing things other than just chucking missiles... a thing you continually cheer on like it's a video game. Stick to Aggie sports. You know what you're talking about there.

@MapotherThimas @TheKevinDalton Every state in the US has permanent sub jobs. They are usually managed at the district level and allow districts to more effectively cover staffing shortages. My understanding is that they usually get paid daily even when not subbing but are required to sub. It's an on-call job.

@minombrejonas @ShireStafford72 @bumbadum14 You live in one on the nicest neighborhoods in the state. Of course you like it! It's like lecturing us on how peaceful and idyllic living in NY state is and then casually dropping that your home is in the Hamptons.

@minombrejonas @ShireStafford72 @bumbadum14 I think your point is stupid, and then you back it up by explaining you live in PH which explains *why* you have the stupid belief. I lived in the Dallas area. It's one of the cheapest large cities to live in. Median home price is ~400k. PH median is >5x that. Very atypical.

Texas is literally the most insane depressing multicultural disaster. Corpus Christi sold it's municipal water supply to an Exxon-Saudi petrochemical partnership because they believed they could build desalination plants they saw in israel. Then some mexican communist organized a NIMBY movement to prevent the desalination plants, which was successful. Now the entire region is about to enter a catastrophic drought.

@rla323 @adgirlMM @MelisaGillett Paxton & Cornyn were already heading to a runoff. Paxton is doing this to sow discord in the Democratic party by gift-wrapping a voter suppression complaint for Crockett in the county where part of her district is. His hope is this will further divide dems and weaken Talarico.

Just so everyone is tracking what's happening in Texas. The Republicans got their results in Dallas. No problem. The Democrats voting was paused, because KEN PAXTON asked the Texas Supreme Court to strike down the lower court's decision to keep the polls open. That could mean any votes cast between 7pm and 9pm may be in question, and it also means hundreds of people who turned out to vote WERE TURNED AWAY. This is VOTER SUPPRESSION. Fuck Ken Paxton. And get ready for this to happen all over the country in November. Republicans can't win, so they cheat.
