The rejection shown today by European leaders is aimed not at the United States, but straight at Donald Trump. He comes out of this conflict humiliated, the Hormuz strait is now blocked, he failed to achieve regime change, failed to secure the uranium and proved himself incapable of defending his own allies in the Middle East. All the US allies in the Gulf that saw themselves as protected by the US were struck by Iran almost at will, whenever Iran wanted, with the US being either unwilling or unable to defend them. So Mr. Trump comes out of this with a terrible record. He started this war having absolutely no idea what he was doing, and even now, I don’t think this man is aware of or understands what he has done. Yes, Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons, but the way Trump thought he could solve that problem is one that only a child could come up with. This man still doesn’t understand what he has done and continues to be arrogant when asking us for help instead of admitting his mistake."

Today is Holy Monday - the day Jesus threw the merchants and money changers out of the temple. He was incensed at them for commercialising a house of prayer. What would Jesus think of those on this site who see religion as a way to spread hatred and make money?

Something genuinely different happened in British politics today. Zack Polanski gave his first major economic speech as Green Party leader and it wasn't the usual vague gestures you get from other party leaders. It was a diagnosis and a plan. The diagnosis: privatisation, austerity and Brexit haven't just been bad policy choices, they've locked Britain into a structural trap. A "bond market doom loop" where financial markets constrain every government before it's even started. The plan ("Zackonomics") is built around ending rip-off Britain for the people who actually keep this country running: → Freeze energy bills now (£8.4bn, funded by the windfall tax) → Cap rents → Nationalise water → Scrap Right to Buy → Forgive student debt → Rejoin the Customs Union and eventually the EU Funded by making wealth pay its share: a wealth tax, equalising capital gains with income tax, and closing the loopholes that let the richest opt out. Is every detail nailed down? No. But this is what it looks like when a party leader actually tries to match the scale of the problem. Britain's economic settlement is broken.
