Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Abuse of power in Congress is not new. But once the Me Too movement exploded in 2017, I along with Republican Congressman Bradley Byrne from Alabama reformed the process by which victims of sexual harassment and assault could be protected and the Member be held accountable.

I am deeply disturbed by the detailed allegations against Rep. Eric Swalwell as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle. I am withdrawing my endorsement of his campaign for governor and believe he should end his campaign.

PG&E is opening a Community Resource Center at 251 18th Avenue from 5-10pm on 12/21/25 and 8am-10pm on 12/22/25 for residents impacted by continued power outages. Snacks, drinks, WiFi, and device charging are available. The City also has charging locations available for residents still without power. While the Main Library and Richmond branches remain offline due to the power outage, all other SFPL branches are open during regular hours for device charging.
