In the last week alone, ICE has shot killed two more people on our streets – neither of whom were targets of their operations.  The inhumanity and racism from the Trump Administration and his rogue assassins are making our communities less safe. ICE cannot be trusted, and Americans deserve independent investigations into these heinous shootings and the agents who break the law must be criminally prosecuted.

Trump can't accept reality. But as the great John Lewis taught us: we need to expand and protect the right to vote, and every American should have an equal voice in our democracy. @HouseDemocrats

At a time when legal challenges like the recent SCOTUS case on birthright citizenship spark national division, events like this remind us of what truly makes our country great. Today is the 158th anniversary of the 14th Amendment. Last week, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that this amendment guarantees birthright citizenship is a constitutional right, not a privilege that can be revoked by a president. As we celebrate this decision, I will continue to defend the Constitution against the Administration’s ongoing assault on the freedoms and democratic principles that define our country.

This week marks the 91st anniversary of the National Labor Relations Act. This legislation established the NLRB to enforce workers' rights to form unions and engage in collective bargaining. At a time when unions are under attack, I'm thankful for groups like @SanMateoLabor for their work fighting for fair wages and safe working conditions.

Great to see BART thinking about how to make better use of its empty parking lots. Housing affordability is a major challenge for families across America and we need to be making the most of the limited land we have, which is why I introduced the Empty Lots to Housing Act. My federal bill would help communities that want to build more affordable housing near high-quality public transit on underutilized parking lots that were purchased with federal funds. There are many hurdles to building affordable homes, and we need all levels of government to help.

62 years ago the #CivilRightsAct was signed into law, a landmark bill that outlawed segregation and discrimination in public life. As we mark this anniversary, we recognize that civil rights are facing renewed threats today—from voting restrictions to attacks on key protections—and we must recommit to protecting these liberties that generations fought to secure.

I am disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold states’ discriminatory laws banning transgender girls and women from playing on school athletic teams that match their gender identity—a decision that will cause real harm to youth who simply want to be themselves while playing alongside their peers. Local school leaders and athletic officials are best positioned to make individual determinations about safety and fairness. We shouldn’t have sweeping prohibitions based on fear. States should be focused on breaking down barriers to participation, but instead this decision sends a devastating message to youth who already face discrimination. While this case is focused on school sports, it leaves the door open to further attacks on transgender rights more broadly. As a proud member of the @EqualityCaucus and a representative of the diverse San Francisco Bay Area, I will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals everywhere.
