Austin auditors found that more than 10 Austin Energy employees gamed call-back rules to collect about $12,000 in improper overtime while their manager looked the other way. statesman.com/news/local/art…

Major cheat code for life: Build a boring baseline. Go to bed early. Wake up early. Move your body. Eat simple foods. Save money. Read good books. Avoid drama. Be present. Listen intently. Change your mind. The inputs may not look impressive, but the results certainly do.

Bowen in the race for District 8 This time, Jeffery Louis Bowen, 70, didn’t wait until the last possible day to launch his campaign—which is what he did when he filed to run for mayor against incumbent Kirk Watson in 2024. Bowen is challenging District 8 incumbent Paige Ellis. First elected in a 2018 runoff, Ellis is in her second term. Being term-limited, she is petitioning for signatures to get on the ballot again for a third term. As president of the Austin Neighborhoods Council, Bowen is in a prime position to engage with fellow citizens about the problems faced by some 80 member-neighborhood associations. Collectively those members represent hundreds of thousands of individual residents across Austin, according to the ANC website. theaustinbulldog.org/bowen-in-the-r…

Just called @ATP_org at provided phone number (512) 710-2100 from their website #public-comment-opportunities" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">atptx.org/contact/#publi… to sign up to speak tomorrow. The call went to voice mail. Be advised the MAILBOX IS FULL. Will signup by email to speak. Prefer speaking in person. Call it a Jeff thing. Let's see how this is going to work. One would think at the amount of taxes paid to ATP, someone would be answering the phone to sign up speakers. Just a thought.

263 missed deadlines. 5 accused murderers freed by an inept DA's office. While Austin voters were kept in the dark, José Garza let violent felons walk. And it’s not an accident—it’s the result of an intentional system funded by dark-money special interest groups -- and the whims of a locally-grown organization. While Austin argues about a $6.6 Billion Budget, think about how ATX could much safer & affordable if city leaders did not attract & coddle the derelicts/criminals of society. We spend $100’s millions on homeless and it gets worse and have a DA that refuses to lock up criminals.

You may be asking yourself, as I was, how is Austin's proposed budget for next year raising my property taxes by over 8%, I thought Texas had a 3.5% cap?? It turns out the 3.5% cap does not cover debt service, and all of Austin's past debt spending ( bonds, random things like cap & stitch ) is adding up. So the city is raising the portion they can to the MAX, but also debt service is adding even more on top of that

Travis County DA declined to prosecute a man who shot someone in the chest over a joke. The county next door then gave him 25 years for the burglary he committed after Austin let him go. Living with crime is a choice.
Austin Justice@AustinJustice

AUSTIN MAN shoots a guy in the chest over a joke, and Travis County DA lets the case quietly die. Dec 2023: Ellis Henderson is making rap music with a guy named Ortiz. Ortiz, sitting cross-legged on the floor with his iPad, makes a joke -- riffing that there's a $50,000 price on Henderson's head. Henderson stands over him and fires a single round into his shoulder. The bullet shreds a lung, snaps three ribs, and fragments inside him. Ortiz survives surgery with pieces of it still in his body. APD charges aggravated assault. Then the case dies as Henderson sits in jail with no indictment, bond slashed from $100,000 to $20,000. In April 2025 the DA drops it cold. Henderson was no stranger to Austin’s prosecutors. A cocaine felony downgraded to probation. In 2016, he went on a rampage on UT campus -- accosted a female student, beat the parking officer who stepped in, tried to steal his car, then fought the cops so hard they had to tase him. His robbery and escape felonies both got quietly knocked down. Paying no consequences, he drove north and kicked down an elderly couple's front door in Killeen, storming in with his fists up. Unlike Travis County prosecutors, Bell County prosecutors didn't blink. They took his priors and put the floor at 25 years, and planned to use the same 2016 UT attack Austin ignored to push a jury toward 40. He didn't risk it and pleaded guilty the morning trial began. 25 years. The county next door built its case out of the crimes Travis County wouldn't touch.

🧵A new analysis from a Texas think tank found a correlation between district attorneys’ non-prosecution policies and increases in crime, but with few state options for addressing so-called “rogue” prosecutors, the group suggests #txlege consider reforms next year.

Why has homeless tripled since 2016 in Austin? Why are there countless violent homeless vagrants with 10+ felony arrests and 0 convictions? Answer: Wren Collective + Open Society PAC funding + DA Jose Garza + Trudy Strassburger + activist judges This is the not so secret hidden hand that controls the criminal complex in Austin. It’s highly coordinated and it has been rolled out in many far-left controlled cities throughout the county. Why does Austin have the exact same problem as LA and Philadelphia…? Austin lived thru actual DSA rule from 2019 to 2021 when @GregCasar was the de facto Mayor and unleashed the worst homeless and policing crisis in the city’s history The DSA threat is always most prevalent at local level. It’s impossible to pull off at state or federal level

As I testified at Austin City Council, these numbers simply don't add up. They make homelessness look less like a problem and more like an industry. The contract with The Other Ones Foundation for Esperanza II doesn’t just support housing development, it locks in taxpayer dollars for a massive shelter expansion before residents have had any real say. No public hearings on Esperanza II. No neighborhood input. No chance for those who will live nearby - or pay for it - to voice concerns. This reflects the deeper flaw in the Homeless Strategic Plan it follows: the plan is one-sided, shaped in an echo chamber of donors, nonprofits, and departments - but excluding everyday taxpayers, the largest funders. Every new shelter shifts the burden into someone else’s neighborhood while normalizing homelessness. And the more we build, the more we attract nationwide homeless migration.

@Marc4AustinD10 You've lost me on this question. I think the problem is that I don't agree with the premise and there's no way to communicate that on the survey. I would argue that you're not going to get very useful data from this one. You've not given an opt-out option.
