In the middle of a historic mission back to the Moon, this Administration is proposing to a 47% cut to NASA science and a 23% cut to NASA’s budget overall. Last week’s launch showed our country and world what we’re capable of when we work together toward a common goal. None of that can happen without support for science and research.

We are saddened by the passing of Browning Nagle, former Fiesta Bowl MVP quarterback and Louisville great. His leadership on the field and passion for the game left a lasting mark on our program. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and teammates during this difficult time.

Since being elected to the Senate, I’ve been supportive of a strong defense budget, but a 46% increase when Americans are struggling to pay for groceries and utilities is irresponsible and ridiculous. We can protect ourselves by having the right capabilities, not just adding money for things that are very expensive and won’t work. This administration falsely thinks that if you just spend more money, you are safer. It doesn’t work like that. Equipping the military adequately, thinking ahead, and making smart decisions is the way this should be managed. We have an unsustainable debt level and Trump has made it much worse. Tax cuts for the rich and a rapidly ballooning defense budget is going to quickly turn into a fiscal crisis that hurts Americans even more.

When the church caesarizes the Messiah, it loses the gospel. When it messianizes Caesar, it gains a tyrant.
